Real Easy Just get yourself a passport and a ticket and go ! You will be given a visa at the point of entry, normally 60 days. Also you will be given a customs declaration on the plane trip down. This will be needed after going through the immigration (DAS)desk and after picking up your baggage. Just present it to the customs agent and proceed into your friends awaiting arms...........Good Luck and have fun !

ColOmbia First of all learn how to spell COLOMBIA well, not Columbia. They might send you to South Carolina ahahhahahahahhahaha.
You just need a passport, that's all. Enjoy your stay in Colombia!

holdenight I don't think that going all the way to Colombia by yourself to meet a girl's parents is something you should be doing at your age. Just how serious could the relationship be, you are both just kids.

Any guy that has traveled to colombia will tell you that there is a special attraction to colombianas. But unless you are ready for a life altering experiance, I wouldn't go to Colombia if I were you.

Just forget about the girl and start dating americanas again before it is too late.

Besides us old farts have enough competition from the young colombianos when it comes to winning the hearts of the colombianas. We sure don't need anymore from young americanos.

IF YOU GO Am gunna say this ONLY because of your age, so don;t take offense.

REMEMBER, you will NO LONGER be in America so the RULES change. I have seen many "kids" in my career cross a border and say "It's party time" only to end up in a foreign prison screaming "I am an American", then realizing the Embassy isn;t going to do anything to get them out and no matter how much money mommy and daddy have, it won;t buy their freedom.

So, if you go, just REMEMBER WHERE YOU ARE !!!

Just a thought

holdenight You maybe young and inexperianced but I certainly don't want to imply that you are fool.

I just think that you should rethink your options before you decide to go.

Hold on a minute! No wonder I never posted on this board before.

Just because the kid is 18 doesn't mean he is a criminal or an idiot.

Please, We don't need anymore self reflection before the two of you post again. LOL !!!

Hey and thanks WoW! this is a good forum. Thanks for all the advice and wisdom. I don't plan on doing anything to get arrested or anything. oh and thanks for the spelling tip. I terrible a spelling so sorry. And as for the advice about dating and stuff yeah thanks. we are not really dating so much. We both have hesetations and stuff like if it did turne into something serious what country would we live in, we are young, what about schools, ect. so don't worry this trip is just to meet her family, have fun, and talk. She will be comming to the USA later after my trip for a trip to Florida. well i'll probably be posting and finding out some info so thanks again. oh one more thing is there any customes or manners I should be aware of because (and thanks for defending me) I'm not an idiot but would like to be kind and such. well c-yawll-around the forum

never said I never said or implied the poster was a criminal. All I did was tell him what I would tell my own son if he were wanting to travel to another Country.

Give you one example. The Texas / Mexico border. Do you have any idea how many americans are arrested each year on the Mexico side while entering mexico with a gun and or ammunition? NOT trying to smuggle it, I mean one in plain sight, a hunting rifle, a shotgun ect. I know of one man who was placed in prison because they found ONE SHOTGUN SHELL in his glove box. These are grown adults who DIDN'T think about it and not realizing bringing any type of firearm or ammunition into Mexico carries an automatic 5 yr prison sentence.

These were not criminals, they were "John Q" citizen" just going over to Mexico for a few hours. Trust me when I tell you that there is no "OOPS, SORRY ABOUT THAT, WE WILL JUST TURN AROUND".

So yea, especially since this person is only 18, I thought it would be a good idea to say something so he just might think twice about some things to insure he doesn;t have any problems while he is here.

Good Advice, something to think about BAQ, we have the same problem here in Southern California. In fact, a few years ago, it got so bad with Americans getting arrested in Mexico, the U.S. put up several warning signs with flashing lights trying to warn motorists headed into Mexico.

Along the same lines, I was returning from Colombia a little over two years ago and while I was having my bags checked at customs in Miami, at the inspection table next to me, there was a guy trying to talk his way out of a jam because they found some prescription medication that was evidently purchased in Colombia. I have no idea what happened to him but he kept saying “I didn’t know it was illegal”.

Keep posting, don’t let em get you down. hahahahaha
