Some posters get a little off but I am Ok with all that, if the moderators are deleting some of it - I would hate to miss reading it before they deleted it. Back on topic, isn't the MAIN reason for this site is to SHARE our experiences and opinion on COL? I remember last year, several posters(mario and another guy), share and trails/tribulation of their road to Happiness with their COL wife. Those thread was highly informative and entertaining without ever getting nasty. Those thread help give a very fair/balance account on differences and similarities between two culture. Now those threads would get deleted within a day. Or how about WFC's thread about trying to meet women in COL?

I'm suprise ELMO hasn't been banned, he talks about donkeys, drugs, girls, poverty, sexism, inequality, AND how GRINGOS are KING in COL. Talk aobut negative image for COL! Maybe he hasn't been banned or deleted because there's no ASS on this board taking offense of his liberties with their kind(donkeys). I'm waiting until we get a real ASS(donkey) PMing the moderator on how ELMO potrays ASS in a bad light. That there are MANY good ASSes in COL, and the one w/ ELMO is just a slut(giving it up to his brother, his friends and others)..

UC I only remember on thread back before christmas where some guy went off on you and your wife. Stuff like that SHOULD be brought to the Moderators attention ASAP to be address. I would think 80% of the attacks you received are from 20% of the antagonist. I'm not married so i can't say what i would do if someone insulted my spouse(even in cyperspace). You open yourself up more with your cutting sacrasm, some people rise to the bait when you do that.

Granted this board has i few ASSes(the 2 legged kind), but for the most part most posters(over 80%) have something to contribute regardless of their POV. But i think censuring is not the way to achieve civility on this board. When i read something so insulting or out in left field, i tend to ignore it even if it's directed at me.

To Tinto/lionheart/peter, a better way to discourage personal attack IS to leave it up there. Then the offending poster has their words for ALL to see, kinda like public humilation. But if you keep deleting threads then all you do is give them a clean slate, there's NO consuences of their action. Can't you suspend their posting privlages? Like time-out in school when a student's been bad. First strike no posting for a week, 2nd no posting for 2 weeks, 3rd no posting for a month, etc., Sure they could come back under a new name, but even then you could lock the email address. And force them to go thru LOTS of work just to cause grief. Usually people are NOT that committed to wreaking havoc, when they have to WORK at it.

Poster wonder why we can't ask questions about cultural differences and sterotype, and unfortunately those sterotype about COL are USUALLY negative. I think if you were on this forum a year ago, you would see lot of sterotype being dispell(all COL men cheat, all COL r Drug trafficer, all COL women are visa ho, all COL is dangerous, etc.,) BUT if you constantly delete threads then those stereotype will cont. If notice most of us that visit/live in COL come away with a balance understanding of BOTH good AND bad of COL. So when some post generalization(both good/bad) we will counter it, to give a balance view.

My experience with Colombia? I met my Colombian husband in Europe in 88 when we were both in grad school. First time I visited was in 1989. I lived there from 94-99. Had my own company there. I also lived in three other Latin American countries. I want to hear interesting stuff - not about "whoring" around. etc, etc.

Go into any club where sex industry professionals hang out anywhere in the country and tell me at least 90% of those guys are not Colombian!

You don't like prostitution, TOO FUCKING BAD, it exists and I for one am glad it does. But it's certainly not 'a gringo thing'. If anything, these days it is mostly a Latin American thing. Guys get on these planes because law enforcement is very strict in the US these days. I don't know why in hell you can't look at a thread, realize that it doesn't interest you and NOT ENTER! I've always heard watching a symphony, Opera or Ballet after smoking some "greens" is quiet and exp, my buddy did this in SF, he said the music is WAY BETTER. LOL! Canada kind of allows prostitution, but only outcall. This is stupid because outcall is very risky for the provider and for the client. So is hooking off of the street. Personally I think both of these should be illegal but incall should be allowed, in certain zones. That is how the law is in Colombia and it is among the worlds most progressive and intelligent. They have 'tolerance zones' in each city, the same way they do in Holland, Japan, Australia etc.
That way people with kids and those who want to avoid it can avoid it, and people who are looking for it know where to find it, everything is safer and cleaner etc. Legalizing prostitution is DEFINITELY a plus for girls who work in that field. The other side of the coin is that the public needs to learn to respect them as HUMAN BEINGS who are working for a living just like everybody else. It's not exactly the easiest living on Earth either!

Tone is hard to detect within text and sometimes sarcasm can be seen as an insult. I myself have found some of your remarks a bit rude but then again I'm not good at noting sarcasm in written word.

You know Hilary is hard to figure out. She is a Gringa, and she talks like she has all the knowledge that one can have about Colombia. Consider this irefutable point. If you go to Bogota', you have Whiskerias all over the north side. A single man cannot walk in the street without some guy trying to give you a card and drag you into these places. Who do all these women think are going to these places? Do these Colombian women think that only Gringos go to them? If they do, they are sadly misinformed. In fact, anyone with common sense would no that Colombia is not exactly at the top of the American tourist trail. That said, it is obvious that the majority of people who patronize these establishments are Colombian men and not Gringos. If the few Gringos that go to Colombia stopped going there, it would not even put a dent in these business.

Colombia, prostituiton, and the men who patronize these girls, have long been a part of Colombian life whether certain people want to acknowledge it or not. Those whore would not be out there in Chapinero, and all over the north side, if there were not willing customer to patronize them. You certainly don't see Gringo driving or walking up and down the Caracas do ya???

And you can come back with all your jokes and mocking me and whatever else you do to try and make your point – but I would hazard a guess that you’re not contributing a whole lot to Colombian society or US society, at that.

As for my husband, like many Colombians he has given a good deal of himself to helping his country and mankind in general. He is an admirable person who has done what you will never achieve. He doesn’t share your values. But I agree, there are plenty out there who do share your values – or Colombia and many other countries wouldn’t be in the state they’re in now – with millions in refugee camps, with women and children dying of disease and starvation. War rages on because of men who have values not too far off from yours.

You talk the way you do b/c you’re lacking in soul, in psyche, in values, and in much much more. You’re all pretty depressing, actually. And I love how you operate with this cloak of annonimity. Would you ever use your real names?
