Tired? or is that re-tired? I am due to retire soon and since I have been tired for the last 50 years, does that mean that I have to tire again? Ii.e. re tire? can I just, be resigned, withdrawn, adjourned, repaired, departed, left, gone, retreated, napped, reposed, quit, rested, slept, reclined, escaped, eluded, aged, ancient, elderly, old, eminent, venerable, august, exhausted, fatigued, overburdened, strained, taxed, bored, palled, wearied, cloyed, debilitated, devitalized enervated weakened drained jaded worn down prostrated worn, bushed, exhausted, fatigued, languid, lethargic, phlegmatic, languorous, irritated, dead, comatose, torpid, indolent, inanimate.

I could be rejuvinated, or as we would say in Scotland "just plain old knackered"

By the way, What is a troll?

geez.. i got tired just trying to get through that...

it's tough when you're retarded..

sounds like you need to trade in for a newer model.

the oldgringo believes that the correct definition
of "TROLL" would be..
one, who, mimicking the action
of a "lucky louie" plug,
when pulled along under the current,
at a slow speed, suspended from an invisible line, catches the
unwary salmon and plays him like a fish.

ARMacleod says on Jan 22, 2005, 16:32:

When you say.... Invisible, do you mean: opaque, translucent, chrystaline see thr..........................

I hope Desi reads this as a kid I loved trolls, they had a history coming from Norway. They were small rubber dolls with wild hair in many colors, warts on their noses, etc. I will need to find pictures and post them here. All I know now is that they are valuable collectors' items. I wouldn't advise anybody of PBH to start collecting them, they would wind up for target practice.

Desi, do you remember the full story of the Norwegian trolls?

oldbongo says on Jan 22, 2005, 16:38:

my lucky louie... hangs from the hair on my troll.

ARMacleod says on Jan 22, 2005, 17:16:

Trolls They are a favourite childrens toy in the UK. Especially in Scotland, I think probably because the usual great mop of bright red hair (The nordic heritage enjoyed by the nothern Scots) As I recall they were more often than not, regarded as the mischievous ones. I use one myself, it is a kind of eccentric pencil eraser cover.

trolls as promised I uploaded a few troll pix to my image archive ... one is a Scottish troll, James, another a Latina troll.

btw ... does anybody have a clue how to delete an image there when it is posted?

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jan 23, 2005, 03:08:

trolling trolling trolling.... yes, lionheart, I know those trolls. I'm sure my daughter has a collection of them tucked away somewhere in the attic. I can't think the name of them right now, but I'll ask the people at work tomorrow. They're still found lying around the shelves and boxes in day-care centers and nurseries. The ones I know are Swedish, from the north of the country but I'm sure the Norwegians have their own copy of the same. They were extremely popular in the seventies.

Cheers,
Desi

the trolls are still being made I found their website and copied some pix into my profile, the link is on the pix. The are made in Denmark now. I remember them myself from the 60s. I can imagine the folklore about trolls to be related there.

oldbongo says on Jan 23, 2005, 12:06:

my troll is danish... and the damm thing just keeps getting prettier with age.

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jan 23, 2005, 12:14:

speak of the troll (That's what we say instead "speak of the devil" in Sweden) I talked to my daughter and showed her the pics you posted, lionheart, and yes, those are the trolls in her mini-collection that she got from her Colombian grandmother:). They have different clothes, though, all of them (there's about half-a dozen of them in different attires). She said that she also has a group of porcelain trolls with the same hair and facial features.
Trolls are very much part of the Scandinavian folklore; we have an enormous amount of children's books and toys featuring different type of trolls. Country people thought before that trolls switched babies in cradles when unattended.

my danish in-laws say.. that that they live under bridges, and compete with
billy goat gruff, for the unchaperoned kids that happen by.

troll catalog Trolls

Desi, show your daughter the catalog ... so many different outfits. I didn't realize they were still popular.

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jan 23, 2005, 12:35:

trolls will always be popular here they're a living part of our folklore and children's culture. My daughter is past the age to play with toy trolls now, she's got a long-haired, blue-eyed viking boy now...but she cherishes her collection of trolls together with cabbage patch and garbage pail kids all neatly stashed away now. She loves to collect things, having moved so many times in er childhood from one place to another and being forced to leave so much of her mementos behind when packing.

Oldgringo, yes, it's troll that lives under the bridge and gets into trouble with the three billygoats. It's an unusual troll, though, since they prefer to live in the mountains and deep forests.

Cheers,
Desi
