HEMI Encuentro en Bogota - AND WHAT TO DO IN SPARE TIME???????

Hello PBH-ers:

I have been out of touch with the forum for a while having found myself in Malaysia this summer ... But I never forgot about wonderful Colombia AND NOW - great news, I am coming back to Colombia for 2 weeks starting the day after tomorrow.

I am organizing a group of actors and theatre folks from the Caribbean (T&T, St Vincent and Jamaica, as well as members of the Caribbean diaspora in Canada) to take part in the Hemispheric Institute for Performance and Politics Encuentro in Bogota this coming couple of weeks. I am collaborating on a couple teach-ins and working groups - community arts stuff with the goal of social change and really focussing on the intersections of disenfranchisement, cultural memory and violence and how we as citizens of the Americas can collectively improve these situations in our respective locales. Our work in Kingston JA really resonates with a lot of the anti-violence work and folks we are in contact with in Bogota.

So I am sure I will meet tons of cool performers and radical theatre folks from Bogota and all over Latin America. BUT - I like to do some exploring on my own or with a couple folks from my group and get away from academia and you kow, work (as cool as it is.)

I am a female in my mid twenties and do NOT like to drink and party - like to see some cool stuff and I can speak enough Spanish to get by fo sho.

SO: Markets? Uniquely Bogota stuff? What is this Police Museum? Good Vegetarian eats?

I was in Colombia for nearly 2 months last year but not Bogota! Help!

I know I can pick up a LP or there will be lots of Bogota folks there at the conference/performance but I want to hear what hte PBH massive recommends for me as well!

Awwww Azunoman that really is quite sweet of you to say :) Thank you. I was integrated into the Encuentro by some pretty cool Profs and folks that I have the pleasure of working and studying with and they are great people - as are the people we work with at the community level - indeed the latter are the real stars.

Are you based in BOG?

Does anyone know any cool stuff to do around the Universidad Nacional de Colombia BOG?

Well I had to be honest there Douglas. I am not one to judge and like my herbs, but I have some early morning appointments and performances to attend to. I must admit I had a bit of red wine last night at a performance at MAPA TEATRO (really cool space by the way.)

I am going to write a post asking about where the best big market is to go to buy artesinia. some folks in my group want to go to buy some crafts. xo
