Help

Hello there,

I am actually writing because I am in real need of help to find cheap tickect from Austin Texas to Cali Colombia. My elder parents live in Colombia . They are very sick, especially my dad who underwent an amputacion. He will turn 80 in a few weeks and I would very much like to go spent this very special time with him. He has been in the hospital since June 23, hoperfully he will be out by the time his birtday (09/09) comes around so we can celebrate his life as a family at home. If you find it in your hearts to help me, I would be forever grateful.

Thank you,

Perhaps it would help if you stated where your trip would originate from.

Best wishes!!!!

Keep checking the travel sites a lot. I use Orbitz first to rough it in then when I find a good fare go directly to the airline to save another $10. Sometimes it can be fluid and change quickly.

Where are you flying from.

American is having sales that end at the end of the week. Get on there site and look. I also posted some links to a previous poster this week. Scroll down a page or two.

Talk to the airlines. I don't have much information but I believe they will give you a discount rate IF you can prove you have a family emergency. Sorry, I wish I knew more. I wish you luck......

Sorry,

I did not read your complete post. As chrispej mention contact airlines. American is based out of Dallas and Continental is based out of Huston. You may wish to contact both.

Good Luck,

Sometimes the fares from Monterrey down south are a LOT cheaper. Not always however, sometimes they are more expensive. The best thing is to check all your options from Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Monterrey. Houston and Monterrey are usually the best bets because the Austin and San Antonio flights usually connect in Houston so Houston is usually cheaper. The Monterrey flights connect in Mexico City or Panama City.

I've been told and have confirmed that the cheapest rates are to be found between 12am-2am Tuesday mornings (o sea late monday night). Then, the rates jump back to normal...check it out!!

being that you are from Texas, go to www.kayak.com for the cheapest tickets on Continental.

you can also try airfarewire.com for some cheap tickets.

I think she's asking for money not advice on a cheap ticket. Hope this is not the case but a lot of girls in South America use this as a scam to get money. Good luck to her, but if she's in the US it means she has her own money and the ability to go to a travel agent or get on the internet. Why would she need advice on cheap tickets?

Rum.......Your point is well taken. In my post above, I had written that 'if her story checks out, that I would sell her some of my frequent flyer miles at a 'discount.' I then deleted that, only because i don't have time to check out her story.

Until I check, then what you say could be true, as these colombianas can be manipulative, especially the younger ones.

myself,....I've always found that kayak.com does not post....the same low fare that Continental posts on it's own site.... I could be wrong.

Where do we go from here?

I usually use kayak to get a feel for who's selling at what price. You're right, GS, continental saves the cheapest fares for their own web site. You can find the same flight on kayak cheaper on continental.com.

I bought 3 round trip tickets to bogota so far on kayak this summer and they were $300 cheaper than what continental offered. Maybe the fact that I bought them one week in advance had something to do with it. (that's $300 each!)

I personally do not like continental but it's really fast to Bogota from the west coast of the states.

I have plenty of frequent miles on American, but I have to fly through Miami and i can't stand that airport.

The only problem with kayak is that you don't want make a change in your flight or miss your flight and then try and re-book. It's horribly expensive.

Now that surprises me because I would see the fare offered on kayak and then immediately go to continental.com and see the exact same flights offered cheaper. Which has happened more than once. Although I don't doubt your story. Just goes to show one never knows what's going on.

I thought on their site Continental guaranteed it would be the lowest price you could find?

Not to say someone doesn't have seats to unload, or maybe not the exact same flight?

BTW, I always found expedia and Travelocity to be ridiculously expensive, and so I use the canadian sites selloffvacations.com and redtag.ca. Haven't tried kayak yet.

I do too. I sometimes use travelcuts.ca, but you always tend to get a crappy seat. ;)

I've never found a good deal on expedia/travelocity. Maybe they hate canucks?

I think its a GW Bush plot to make us pay extra in airfares to get to some warm weather, to make up for our lack of "defense spending", which runs about a nickel a year.
