Medellin Traveler says on Dec 30, 2007, 19:03: It happens all the time. As long as she is okay, that's what is truly important. If you value your life, you will not step in to help out anyone, sad as it may be. Money is just paper.. Also, most Colombians aren't too f....... scared after it happens to them, they just say, "it was my turn" and go on with their lives. Welcome to Locolombia! She will be okay. Enrique187 says on Dec 30, 2007, 19:06: man that sucks. I've read on this board that bank setups like that are common. what a pain in the ass. it makes me think of how dumb i was all those times I would withdraw money from outdoor atm's late at night in Bogota.

Enrique187 says on Dec 30, 2007, 20:05: all of my family in Bogota told me to never hail a cab off the street. (maybe cuz i look like a gringo). They always had me use an automated service that gave you a confirmation number and a passcode of the cab. (I heard some "robbery cabs" tend to intercept signals). What I found was good was to have a personal driver or to just use a cabbie that you know and is readily available, even though if you are slightly generous with them they'll tend to try to gouge the prices.

rocinante says on Dec 30, 2007, 23:15: 15 minutes to an hour? That must be Bogota. Usually in Med they won't answer the phone unless they have some one 5 mins away - 10 max. Just my experience here. Strobers says on Dec 31, 2007, 08:03: Regarding Robert's comment, it always is smart to get money out of an ATM in a mall or grocery store. The only time I'll use an ATM on the outside is in an area with a lot of moving pedestrian traffic and an armed guard. Even then, I never get money by myself.
