HELP WITH PLACE TO STAY IN BOGOTA! PLEASE!

Hello everyone,
my first post here. My five brothers and sisters and I will be traveling to Bogotá around June 10th and are looking for a place to stay for about two weeks. A flat or apartment would be awesome. As cheap AS possible! We can sleep on floor and can cram well.
Any one know what a cheap but decently clean hotel would run for all of us. In central america we paid about $40 usd a night for all 6 people and had tv, hot water, air/heat ect.... Does that seam realistic in Colombia??

Thank you all for any responce!

Any idea how much more? What about food. Is it cheap or expensive in general to eat at low cost diners?

You can surely find a couple cheap hotel rooms for 6 people for $40 total. Perhaps a bit more to get everyone a bed. Apartments will be more.

A typical set lunch runs about $3 these days, some places are quite good and filling too.

I am not sure I agree with the above posters unless you don't mind sleeping in some really bad conditions. You may be able find accommodation in a hostel like the Platypus...maybe. durito is correct in terms of the food. Also, in many places you can refills of juice and I have found places under $3. There's lots of info on this site with regards to accommodation. I am sure that if you google it on this site you will find what you need. Have a great time in Bogota.

ice you will have a difficult time finding any place in Bogota that has aircon...especially for the amount of money you want to pay. Furnished accommodation is often NOT cheap in Colombia.

My suggestion would also be Platypus. German has a place I've rented for several weeks before and it would accomadate several people together in one apartment...in Platypus II...just down the street from Platypus I (office, etc.). German is of great help to foreigners...and can set you out to lots of places in Bogota and Colombia. Tell him Daryl Meyer suggested Platypus and the same apartment I've used there. Best of luck!

Air con in Bogota? Absolutely not neccessary... I think Bogota can be pricier than many parts of Central America.. I'd say you need to budget on about $12-$18 per head depending on what kind of accomodation you are looking for. I'd go for something more central..

I would consider contacting hostels in Bogota and see if you can just book a 6-bed room for your group, you may be able to get a long stay rate. You'll have your own space but still be able to mingle with others who are travelling extensively... fellow-travellers are one of the most valuable sources of informatio, and it can be really fun and in Bogota you will really meet a mixture of people.

Maybe save your money to book a small house in a town like Barichara or something..

$40 for 6 people...good luck....I might be able to get you two rooms near the US Embassy in a guest house for $100 a night and this includes breakfast. She might let 6 into a room with some on the floor for $70 but I doubt it greatly.

try the takendama.........that shouldn't be more than $300-400 usd for the six of you.

as i said in another post, years ago i stayed in some gringo's place, 'tomo de agua'...maybe a mile from the takendama. decent, but the area was nothing to write home about. maybe you can search it out while in bog.
