I'm headed to Medellin this Friday for two days and would love some help on places to go from anyone who lives there or has spent time there in the last year or so. I did some research on this site and haven't really come across a master list of places to go and what nights the places are good. I hear that most everywhere is good on Saturday, but i'd like to know which places are the best to go to.
I went to Medellin once over a year ago and went out to Mangos which was fun, but a bit cliquish. Most people seemed to be gathered around tables with their bottles of liquor and the women seemed a bit unapproachable. I'd love to go to some places that are more friendly and fun......though I'd still like to be in the company of attractive women like they have at Mangos. I'll be there for a Friday and Saturday night. Any info is appreciated.
By the way......has anyone been to a club called Blue, a club/museum called Vinacure or a restaurant called La Majoria in Sabaneta? All of these were posted before by others but I wasn't sure if anyone else could vouch for these places.
Thanks in advance!

utopiacowboy says on May 3, 2006, 16:23: My one and only piece of advice is this. Stay the hell out of Mangos. No normal Medellin woman sets foot in the place. While you're at it, stay the hell out of Poblado completely. Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. |

utopiacowboy says on May 3, 2006, 19:08: Mangos is inhabited by three types of chicks: rich bitches, prepagos and Mafia princesses. If you're interested in any one of those types by all means, go. El Poblado is the richest barrio of Medellin filled with gringos who are too petrified to go anywhere else and Colombians who use it as their base of operations when they're not in Miami or Switzerland. ColombiaBoard says on May 3, 2006, 20:24: Parque Lleras Ok, so it's full of rich kids, obnoxious people and tourists but it's the only place where you can find about 6 good restaurants and about 10 bars/cafes where you can enjoy a good drink and enjoy some company.

Brians says on May 4, 2006, 04:35: Parque Lleras is the safe bet. Without knowing really what you like and what a crowd is on any night Parque Lleras has the selections. If you don't like one place you can go to another. I personally think Vinacure would be a bad call. Too far away and a goofy scene. Not something I would take in with only one night. Blue is good but nothing special. I personally like Sabenata. Some good clubs there and a safe bet for finding something you may like. So do Parque Lleras Friday night and then then Sabenata Saturday night. Hopefully you can meet some woman Friday and they can drag you to some places Saturday. The only really good thing about Mangos is they stay open till 4 or 5am. Everything else closes at two (ex. maybe Universal). Not that I stay out that late but on vacation I like to have the option.

mbest says on May 4, 2006, 08:02: I would also throw out a vote for Parque Lleras. Also, there is a bar, just on the other side of Club San Diego, that is pretty good. More local people. The owner's name is Hido.

morphus says on May 4, 2006, 08:09: A taxi driver took me to a place called "Plaza Mayorista". Its a real raunchy place with hookers and drunks partying in the street. Picture beer bottles smashing and people vomiting in the street. The first 5 minutes there I saw a guy get beat up in the street. The police just stood there and watched. I met one guy that used to live in the U.S. The only thing, most of the time he spent in the U.S. was in a prison before they deported him. I met another Colombian guy that used to live in New York City. He was 24 years old and spoke perfect English. He got deported for selling crack cocaine. He went to live with his grandmother in Envigado. She threw him in the street because he could'nt control his drug habit. If you have a taste for sleaze and the bizzare, go there!

morphus says on May 4, 2006, 08:18: I been to that club in barrio San Diego. A girl invited me there one night. I had fun. It was crowded with a big dance floor. It was'nt like other places in Medellin where everyone sits around a table with a bottle of liquor with music so loud, you can't even talk to the person next to you.

bickerss says on May 5, 2006, 12:02: Here s my advice. Check out Parke llaras, you can find some great people there althoguh a lot are rich and snobbish. I went to a disco here called Folio. This was on a Friday night and was one of the best nights i had. It has a great atmosphere. Near here is another disco which is more low key, cant remeber the name at the moment but will post it when remember.

MedellinViking says on May 5, 2006, 16:43: I'm downtrodden.. Nobody mentioned my club! All this Parque Llaras crap for the weak adventurers who managed to get to Colombia only to hide out with posers and wanna be's. Mangos, Universal, Casa, Kaos, DejaVu, Canalon (etc) go with a girl or better yet a group and don't expect to leave with anyone different. In front of Plaza Majorista is just what Morphus described. For a true adventure spend a couple of hours here. But back to my whining... Nobody mentioned where you can get the 'cleanest' fun in town. In my club, Cuchicheos! Live your fantasies because life is short and from all I've seen death is really, really long.... |

MedellinViking says on May 6, 2006, 08:31: Thanks Utopia! Sometimes all the posts about Parque Lleras just make me feel unloved;) I thought that my post might stir the pot a little with my critics, or cuchicheos' critics, you know, promoting Colombia as a place to go live out your fantasies! utopiacowboy says on May 6, 2006, 14:52: I showed my wife the web site for cuchicheos and she was somewhat shocked. She's eaten many times at La Casita de mi abuela and never imagined that there was a swing club around the corner! In fact she found it hard to imagine that there were a lot of paisas interested in that sort of thing. I said, come on let's browse the photos - maybe you'll see someone you recognize! I told her that there were sites with Medellin couples looking for other Medellin couples to swing with - she wants to check them out to see if there is anyone she knows! Too funny. Colombians always imagine that these things are a gringo or European thing and that they are too pure and innocent for sodomy or swinging. MedellinViking says on May 7, 2006, 01:37: More from the live your fantasies director... Well Mrs Utopia is somewhat right, nudist,/voyeur/exhibitionist/swingers are a pretty new idea for Medellin. The are now 4 such clubs here, and at last count 6 in Cali and 14 in Bogota however many are just meet and greet and go home/motel together. We like to think we are the best with a very comfy club and a high quality clientelle. We do stay on the discrete side in regards to location and everything regarding our clients but since you know the area, my favorite fun fact is the back of my building buts up against the Catholic church/school and the lot to my south is the nunnery! Hows that for neighbors? Anyway there are a few "rejections to proceede" in the changing room with explainations along the innocence lines, especially when the hombre neglected to mention what to expect, but for the most part people really enjoy getting nude, having drinks in the jacuzzi and enjoying the show of the more liberal guests. For many this is an opportunity to feel good about their bodies flaws and all. So when Mrs Utopia gets curious just come on in and start by haing a few drinks without leaving the comfort of you towel. Also for any couple desiring to use the club in private or with a small group of friends we have many days and times available so there really is now excuse why Mrs Utopia should not treat you to a nice spa experience even if it is in private! Live your fantasies because life is short and from all I've seen death is really, really long.... |

smithm says on May 18, 2006, 14:30: Even if swinging may not be your "cup of tea", I highly recommend going to Cuchicheos, if for no other reason than to meet the Viking--my friends and I had the pleasure last week. Besides being interesting and witty, his encylopaedic knowledge about Medellin and Colombia will provide you with a lot of insight which you could never get from a Colombian guidebook (not that there are any--yet)!
