Help with Certificate of Singlehood

I need some help. I am getting married in a Church Ceremony in Colombia in three weeks. My wife need a Certificate of Singlehood. I think this is a Church document? Anyway where do I get it. I did a search online and the only areas mentioned are on PBH. I am american and I asked in the county office and the lady looked at me with a blank stare. Also I was married before but have been divorced. I was not married in a church the first time so I know that I can get married in a church but apparently I need this document. Please help.

Divorce Papers? Won't your divorce papers be sufficient? I'm not sure of the exact requirements for a church wedding, but whenever I needed to prove my singlehood I just offered my divorce papers. You may to try that.

Thanks for your cmment I would agree but I think in Colombia I need to prove that I am single. I was divorced 10 years ago. I have that document. I can get a letter signed by my ex stating that I was not married in a church before. However I don't know what to do about this Certificate of Singlehood. My priest said that all I needed were these two documents but the priest in Colombia wants this Certificate also. He is very difficult. I was even thinking of having him call the priest in Colombia but he speaks no spanish.

You DO need this document. In my case, I had to have two people who were not family members state that they knew that I was single and that I had never been married in the Catholic Church. They signed in front of my parish priest who then signed as a witness to their statement. I had the parish put their seal on it and then I took it to the bishop's office here where they put their seal on it as well. This was sufficient. Basically, write up a statement including the above with their names and addresses and have everybody sign it as I did. Then you can get the seals. Colombians love seals on documents.

Your baptimsal certificate will also show your confirmation and any marriages. After I got married in Medellin, they sent a record of it to the parish where I was baptized in Canada. Now my baptismal record shows my baptism, confirmation and marriage.

Thanks UC I was thinking about doing that. I will write up a letter as you said. I will ask my priest about the bishop thing. My bishop is difficult to get as he is traveling. I would think that the priest is fine but I will ask him.

I know You think you got problems? My girlfriends parents wanted me to provide them with a "Certificate of Singlehood" before we could even see each other, never mind get married!
Anyways, you go to your state's registry bureau, where you would normally go to get marriage and death certificates. You ask them for them to do a search on your marriages and the results will indicate you have not been married since .... So, you give them that and also your divorce papers and you're all set.

I never had to see the bishop. I just went to the Chancellery office where they affixed a seal authenticating the parish seal.
