Help with a Carta de solicitud de visa de cónyuge

I am trying to get my "Visa de Conyuge" and the Colombian consul among other things is asking me for a "Carta de solicitud de visa de cónyuge firmada por su esposa colombiana debidamente notarizada".

Fine, I have no problem with this but my Colombian wife does not know how to make this letter. Can anyone explain or give an example copy so we can go by. This is the only thing I am lacking to request the Visa and I need it pretty soon because by the time they issue it to me, I will be traveling back to Colombia.

There is no "form" just have the wife write a letter (notarized, of course) requesting the Visa de Conyuge be issued. Be sure she specifically requests a Visa de Conyuge. The consulate may ask that the letter have an apostille unless the wife is with you at the time the letter is presented at the consulate.

Thanks Gator:
No, the wife is not with me. Here I am trying to get my Colombian Visa while she is trying for the US Visa. Our idea is to go back and forth when ever we want.

So in other words, just ask for the consulate to grant me the Visa de Conyuge as a request with all her info (cedula #, place of residence, etc) included.

If there is anything else she needs to put in the letter, I will appreciate all the inputs.

Thanks you very much

Yes, her cedula number and place of issue, your name and passport number along with her request that you stay in Colombia with her......and has to be notorized. Don't forget a marriage certificate issued within the last 90 days.

Do not tell them your back and forth intention......you are going there to live.

Traveling back to Colombia soon? Just do it all in Bogota. It only takes three hours to get the sticker in your passport, and two more days to get your cedula.

Oh oh. I am going to the MRE tomorrow, and our mariage certificate is older than 90 days. We sent it back in August to California with a friend because we didnt have it apostill'ized, and then another friend who just flew in brought it back. Are you sure it has to be ISSUED within the past 90 days, or has been APOSTILLADO in the last 90 days. I am going to be so bummed out if after all this crap its no good.

Hmmm.....good question. For most, the certificate is issued in Colombia so it does not need to have the appostille. It already has that nice red stamp issued by the Notary. The MRE's goal is to make sure you are still married. If the recent appostille convinces them that you are still married, you might be OK. But bureaucrats can be picky though.
Since you are almost there, I am sure you are going to give it a try anyway. You will get an opportunity to plead your case. They will call you after an hour or two of waiting and tell you that something is wrong with your application. If you are both in the waiting room, you will be more convincing.
Tell us what happens.

Thanks. Today I went to the MRE website (last night it wasnt working), and under requirments for the visa de C. it says.
• Registro civil de matrimonio colombiano, expedido con antelación no mayor a 90 días; o copia de la providencia judicial mediante la cual se acredite la existencia de la unión marital de hecho, según el caso.

What mind-boggling beaurocra-speak! But I think that means that if it isnt the Colombian document, then the 90 days might not be mandatory. I am tempted to call to not waste the bus trip, but I think you are right -- if we are both there en vivo y directo, we might have a better chance of "manejando inconvenientes." I will let you know.
By the way, for anyone looking for the list of required documents, it is at http://www.cancilleria.gov.co/WebContentManager/Repositorys/site0/Requ....
The main page about visas is at
http://www.gobiernoenlinea.gov.co/tramite.aspx?traID=204. Scroll down to the second section, labeled "¿Cuáles son los requisitos y documentos que necesito para realizar este trámite?"

Well, it may be that fast in Bogota but I am now in Puerto Rico. I can drive to the Consulado Colombiano and get it done there. No lines. The longest I had to wait there before was about 15 minutes. However, no cedula. But I did apply for the cedula de extrangero and got me a temporary card. They told me to wait for 6 months to get in on the mail at my wife's house but it has been 8 months and nothing.

Mrs Gator has been waiting over a years for he "new" cédula. "Any week now", she is told.

Chewy, I am pretty sure you will have to hit DAS in Colombia for your Cédula. The consulates oly issue or reissue for Colombian nationals.
