A women 38 is an 8-8.5 in the US-Men 40 is a 10-10.5 it all depends on the brand.

The Brand does matter... ... but a 40 never is a 10US. I wear 43 and usually go for 9 1/2 or 10.

Shoes My Colombiano wears a size 42 shoe, and when I buy him shoes in the U.S. to take him as a gift, I always get a size 11. That being said, a size 40 is usually a 10 for men. I wear a size 39 in Colombia, and here I am a size 9.
