My American father died yesterday in CALI.
He had no will or death insurance plan. He died at an indigant hospital-San Jaun de Dios.
As far as burial is concerned; I understand if I don't come up with the funds for burial; in a matter of time, the morgue will send his body to a "fosa Comun". Is anyone here familial with this? Is it the same as a mass grave?
I have to come up with $2,000 in cash in two days if I want to prevent the Colombian govt from disposing of his body.
Any suggestions...? Please advise
BTW per the American Embassy-there is no federal monies to assist Americans abroad that die in a foreign country...
Any remarks/suggestions welcome

Lowell says on Mar 21, 2007, 14:03: sorry for your loss In Colombia they burry people quick. The morgues here aren't the same as in the States. A quick autopsy, a day in the house of the family and that's it. No family or in Colombia to help? Alfred E. Newman. "What. Me Worry?" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Desideria (Moderator) says on Mar 22, 2007, 07:50: Contact Camposanto metropolitano, http://www.camposantometropolitano.com/. The page is under construction but it has the telephone numbers and services they offer plus a link to funerarias. You have to hurry because as lowell said it goes down really fast in Colombia, often in less than two days.
