Help .... Bogota hotel

Booked a room in Saint Simon. Nice area and nice place, but the LP guide was wrong -- the rate is not US$ 40.00, but more than double that *I got a Colombian to booke it for me. I am thinking of moving to a cheaper area closeby or even by te US embassy area. Unfortunately, dont have a lot of internet time, so am unable to use te PBH archive to go through past posts. However, found one link -- bogota apartments.
Any other tip would be reatly appreciated.

US$40 you can get that same rate at a hotel in a much nicer area than close to the US embassy. can think of no legitimate reason to stay there... taxi rides here are dirt cheap, so why not stay in a nice area?

Hotel Dann Norte is nice, about $55.00 a night for a nice room, nice view, breakfast included, nice area, however is about a 15 min drive to the embassy
