PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post

hello everybody :-)

Thought I would pop by to say hello

My name's Andy, I'm new here and from Scotland

Going to be travelling in south america from March and Colombia is one of my top places to go. Not planning anything too much but reckon I'll be there from around April until....well....who knows?? I might stay a while!

Reckon I'll be hitting Bogota first then maybe Caratgena, Medellin. Was just wondering if there are any bars or pubs or anywhere in these cities where single travellers or "gringos" like myself meet up?? Not that I'm wanting to stick to my own, far from it, but thought it might be an idea to get to know the ropes, meet some like minded people, maybe even some drinking buddies....

Don't really like the idea of just arriving and wandering around looking lost for the first 2 weeks with my limited spanish!

Anyway, thats all from me just now...better get back to learning my Spanish verbs.....aaarrgghhh

laters folks

Andy

Andy,

Keep my email address or give me a call before you arrive in Bogota. Because my Spanish is not fluent, I'm always interested in meeting English speaking people in Bogota. My phone in bogota is 232-6437. Tell me ahead of time, because I'm back and forth each month between Bogota and Texas.

I know several English speakers that hang out at the Monkey Pub in Bogota. The address is Carrera 5, #71-45, second floor.

take it that's the pub you owned churizo? Is it a local magnet for brits then?

"Poor guy is getting pushed into all the touron locals. No fun.
Make some Colombian friends asap, guys not girls and let them take you to their places."

Don't worry man, I'll be making plenty of local friends, thats why I'm taking spanish lessons right now since October and thinking about a 3 week intensive course in santiago before I hit colombia. It's all good, I'll be mixing with both :-)

I remember in Stirling, shortly after the film Braveheart, Stirling town council decided to commission a statue of William Wallace outside the Wallace monument, but in their cutural stupidity they decided on a statue of Mel Gibson, and it wasn't even a likeness of him....when it was unveiled everybody was almost sick......and the very next day when my mum drove past it, I looked out the window and somebody had spraypainted a big cock on him and written "mel ya wank"

Andy la Zona Rosa or pink Zone is an area of Bogotá where are all the bars and discos,This is the most popular, but there is another one call La Zone T, The Irish pub is located there in case you fancy a pint of Guinness :) another area of bars and discos is La Primera de Mayo, but this south of Bogota, very popular too but not many gringos go there because they are scare of the area, to me is safer then the zona rosa. the thing is you won't find many fforeigners there just one or two while the zona rosa and t are full of them.

Andy S says on Jan 7, 2008, 09:22:

yeah the pubs in Stirling are awful.......rough as hell too....especially round by the castle or the "top of the town" as they call it....lots of stabbings and neds (chavs) hanging around ready to cause trouble with any face they don't recognise....

anyway, so you never said where in england you were from chorizo? I used to live in sheffield....and worked in rotherham...god that was depressing..and that fucking accent....even when they're talking about something they enjoy it makes you want to slit your wrists...you're not from yorkshire are you?? lol....only joking, I still have many good mates down there lol

Kat1, I dunno how long I'm going to be in Bogota, but if I like it I might see about obtaining a visa if its possible and staying a while or until my money runs out......once I find my feet and get to know some locals and am speaking spanish well enough then I'll probably prefer to go where they go...all those lovley latinas....beats scottish girls anyday! (that wouldn't be difficult though) But will probably hit the Irish pub for a pint of guiness and some banter :-)
