health concerns

I'm a Canadian and am plannibg to got to Bogota in January. Do I need to have any shots before I go? Also, is the tap water, or uncooked food washed with tap water, safe for visitors?

It's a Pretty Modern City If you are only going to Bogota, nothing is really required. I made sure I was current on my Hepatitis and Tetanus, but nothing is really needed.
You will hear different things from different people about the water. I have been here 3 months and have never had any problems with the water, nor have I known anyone else that has had problems. Most people drink bottled water, but I use tap water for ice and have had plenty of tap water to drink with no problems.
Don't worry--while this is a city of contrasts and there is much poverty, you will find that it is quite wonderful!

Water is great and it tastes good too.

Just don't expect the traffic to stop for pedestrians and watch out for the high kerbs and missing utility covers on the pavement.

Is this the most frequently asked question on PBH? For the squeamish maybe you should follow W.C. Field's advice about drinking water, "Water? I never touch the stuff! Fish f*ck in it."

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.
