Health care

I was considering Bogota for residency, but given the altitude, it is not the best choice for us. I would appreciate your thoughts on where the best health care is available other than Bogota (altitude) and Cali (heat). We are older and want to be near facilities that can take care of major health problems, and a more moderate temperature. I know Armenia has great temps, beautiful, safe, but I was told the health care wouldn't be good enough for major problems. Thanks for the great info on this site!

Medellin Medellin is renowned throughout Latin America for having some of the best equipped, modern hospitals and most respected, accomplished physicians. Overall, Medellin's health care system is first-class, and the city, itself, enjoys a lovely, mild year-round climate, is clean, modern, vibrant and perhaps the most beautiful in Colombia.
The Clinica Medellin, for example, offers unparalleled health care in a gorgeous setting.

Bogotá isn't that high Only 2600mts above sea level, I dont think you would notice the difference.
But as a second choice, definitely Medellin.

Altitude I disagree with those who say that there's not much impact from altitude in Bogota. The listed altitude of the city is about 8,600 feet and I believe that's at the airport, which is downhill from most of the city. It's not La Paz, Bolivia or Kathmandu, for sure, but it's not a piece of cake for everyone, especially old people or those with health problems.

http://www.princeton.edu/%7Eoa/safety/altitude.html is an interesting link about adjusting to high altitude.

Thank you I had considered Medellin as a possibility and think it is now the most likely. Gator, can you elaborate a bit on your other choices? I am not familiar with Manizales/Bucaramanga.
Thanks
