He Got It!!!

Thank you to everyone, especially Crazy and Peter, for all your help and guidance. My fiance got his Visa yesterday and he will be coming home to FL on Saturday. I can not thank you enough...it means the world to me that he was able to come so quickly because of all your help. But don't worry...I'll be back with more questions once we have to start the AOS process. :) Ha Ha!
Thanks again!

Thanks! Luckily for him he has already worked in this country, when we lived in NY, and he already experienced the joy of working here. Believe me, he was stressed! :)

Timeline K. Here it goes...

-I sent the I-129 back in the beginning of August - - Originally I sent EVERYTHING. We lived together before in NY so we sent our taxes with the same address, lots of pictures, letters from friends and family that knew both of us, my letter of intent to marry him and how much I love him. Plus the immigration forms of course.
-They sent it back to me the beginning of September. (I sent a copy of something instead of an original. Silly mistake, but I was so mad because a whole month was wasted)
-Then everything got approved pretty quick from there, I'd say within 4-6 weeks the paperwork was sent to New Hampshire and I was notified of the approved petition (I-129).
-Next everything was sent to Bogota. Now that is when the process slowed down. We waited and waited and we never heard anything from them. I think Bogota got everything the end of October beginning of November and we never heard anything.
-He never got his packet 3 from the embassy, so that when I found poorbuthappy and downloaded the required forms. Once we did that since it was before the 20th of the month his interview was scheduled for three-four weeks later.
January14th - faxed everything needed for the Packet 3, then his interview was scheduled for February 14th.
-Saturday, February 18th...lands in the US with his K-1 visa!!!!

So overall it took, not counting the month lost between August and September, 5 months! Not too bad considering the 2 months we waited around and did nothing waiting for the embassy to contact us. Just think that if that didn't happen he would have been here for Christmas.

Skemper No, I didn't go to the interview with him. We figured in the cost for me to fly down there and then stay in Bogota until he left would have been to expensive. We have also heard and read that it really doesn't make a difference if you got with them or not so we decided to save the money for the wedding.
I have heard some stories of people that did attend and it turned out well for them.

I'm sooo happy for you!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!! This website has been phenomenal for me in seeing what everyone is going/ went through! I really do wish you the best, OH MY GOSH he gets here tomorrow!! How exciting is that? I'm EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess we will decide on whether or not I should be with him at the interview when it's closer to the time... and also depending on whether they ask us for more evidence... we'll play it by ear!!! But he can get nervous so easily that I'm pretty sure he would want me there for him as support, pobresito... I love him so much!!!!!! I just hope it goes as smoothly as possible!! I'll keep you posted!! Good luck with your wedding!!!! How much fun is all fo this!!!????!!!!?????

you're floating in love skemper:) That's cool... I am sure your interview will be fine... just have all of the financial documentation and proofs of relationship and I am sure you'll be fine.... Tell him to don't be nervous... all he needs is the confidence on the love you have for each other. That will give him strenght

wish him good luck

oh and mireland I am glad then it won't be a hard adjustment process... I came here without ever even visitting before (at least I spoke english) and it's been a little challenging

Hugs

OH YES I AM FLOATING IN LOVE!!!!!!! HA HA HA or how my fiance likes to say JA JA JA.... Thanks for your kind words silviat!!! It means so much!!!!! So how long have you been here? Where are you living now? Was it really a hard adjustment? Is it still hard???? That's what I'm afraid of with my guy... he's only traveled outside of Colombia once before and that was to Ecuador...... so I know it's going to be a bit challenging for him too!!! He started his english classes last week and is learning very fast!!!

Thats sweet... then there's two of us floating ;o)... probably 3 because I bet mireland does as well.

I've been out of touch with earth since this san valentines day. I am not a person of expensive presents so he touched my vein giving me flowers, a bottle of wine and chocolates (I bought him a bottle of wine and chocolates from the same store ;)). And then he wrote me the sweetest thing I've ever read... he is not really an expressive man so it meant a lot.

Anyway going back to the subject of the adjustment. I think it's pretty challenging even if you come with a good attitude. It's just different here... everything: people, and the speed of life and habits and stufff... It's not imposible but I think it requires a lot of patience.

Now, I don't really know of the transition for a guy, but I imagine it's probably hard at the beginning when he can't work for a few months (from 2 to 4 or 5 months after his arrival).

So just let him know that he'll have to be patient and look for ways to occupy his mind at the beginning... He'll be ok thought... everything is easier when you are with the person you love.

I am living in Portland, OR and I've been in the country since july. I came with a pretty good attitude I think, and I also have lived out of colombia before so leaving the country wasn't that difficult.

When I came here it really costed me a lot of time and tears to get used to don't have much to do during the days and to don't have any income. I started volunteering and that helped out a lot. Now I have a job and I attend school so sometimes I have the opposite problem... I am too tired at the end of the day... but I know I will get used to it eventually.

I am fine most of the time, but christmas was a little hard, and sometimes I get a little down for silly things. It's also a little difficult to have to start from scratch your network of friends... that has been hard! But I am going and it keeps getting better

So as a conclusion my best advice is patience for both of you... Lots and lots of patience mixed with your love and you'll make it no problem.

I send hugs!
