Hello All...
Has anyone ever been to Melgar or Cota?
I hear these are very nice places near bogota . Also, If I have an expensive camera will it get stolen in a hotel or just being the usual tourist thing by taking pictures?

I only spent a few hours in Melgar one afternoon, so I don't really know too much about it... but what I did see I absolutely loathed. It's just a hot, dirty little military town. People like to go there because it's hot and you can lay by the pool all day, and weekend nights I understand it's quite a party scene. Some people really enjoy it, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Your mileage may vary - you should go and stay somewhere nice and check it out, but I'd suggest, don't expect too much and you won't be let down. Villa de Leyva is much more my speed (hey, am I old?), and I'd recommend that first. Don't know anything about Cota.

Cerealkiller says on Feb 5, 2005, 00:39: Hmm I agree with Goosekirk. Melgar isnt really a very nice place to visit. It is dusty, the town is quite boring and if youre not drunk 24/7 then i reckon you wont enjoy it...However if you still feeling like visiting that area Id rather go to Girardot, it is a little bit more upscale than Melgar.
