Has anyone ever been to Arauca?

Besides an oil pipeline, bordering on Venezuela, guerrilas and a strong military presence in the Llanos, what is it known for?

I met a really nice young woman from there and was interested in finding out more...but there is not a lot of information.

The students in my class said to stay away from women from that area of Colombia...my friend told me that the women there were known to be much more conservative, Catholic, traditional. That quite a few were even virgins when they married (this is something I could care less about, personally).

I have an ex here that´s part Venezuelan and I just love that carmel colored skin...her father is apparently Indian, she said something about ¨selva¨ but I am not sure what that means, if it´s a region, Indian tribe or just a general ethnic phrase.

She´s a really good girl, it seems. Went to mass for Ash Wednesday, and her abuela runs a homeless shelter and soup kitchen in Caicedonia, which I hope to visit in the next month. Perhaps on the way to the Mark Anthony concert April 1st in Cali.

I have been with LOTS of women in 7 months here, and this if the first one I really LIKE and want to get to know. (For example, the girl I´m dating now, I forgot to send flowers on March 8th because I was thinking about this woman, lol!). I´m not going overboard, we haven´t even gone out on an official date, but she just has this warmth and spirit that is infectious. Of course, it doesn´t hurt that she could be a model, but the fact that she compared Winston Churchill to George Bush was enough to pique my interest, even though she´s only in her third level of English classes.

ok ummm.....go to dogpile . com and search for arauca......4 the selve thing-that means jungle. um she sounds like a very nice girl. althuogh she doesnt seem like a typical girl from colombia ( who are percieved as partying whores) you are 1 lucky guy best wishes to you. as for aracua.... it is a small-medium sized departamento(state) in colombia 23,392 kilometers squared. oyu r right in saying arauca isnt famous for anything. the capital only has 50,000 people. aruaca was founded by missionaries.the population density ranges from 1-15 people per square kilometer. the tribe where the father is from is probaly from the sikuani tribe, or the chibcha tribe that are both in aracua (i think the first tribe).he could also be a macaguane, cuiba , guahibo, all are indian tribes that are stiil existent in the aracua are. the only thing i can think bout aracua is the nacional park (huge) that it shares with boyaca named sierra nevada del cocuy. it is 306,000 hectares. it is more on the boyaca side so that sucks for aracua. anyway good luck with the nena colombiana if it doesnt work wit her get a costena (giirl from the coast) but never a paisa or a girl from the inlkand mountains (they are the players) aight peace and good luck best wishes i admire that you are white and you like colombia. peace

Thanks for the information.

I think the reason that I like her IS the fact that she is so different from the girls in Eje Cafetero, Cali, Cartagena, Bogota and Medellin.

It´s kind of like she has this optimism about life...she is very idealistic. I guess it makes sense, as she is from a totally different part of the country, one of the first women I´ve met from the eastern plains.

The only girls I have ever met that were OBVIOUS players or gold diggers were from Pereira. Most of the girls here in Armenia are legit.

I liked visiting Cartagena (was there for 18 days), but I wasn´t as impressed with the women there as some are...

I've been in the area before. There are some nice looking women but I'm not sure about a lot of them being as conservative as you mention but with the dept. being as issolated as it is I'm sure they're not as materialistic as you would find in the big city.

God Bless America!

This is simply what a Colombian teacher at my school said to me.

There´s, of course, a difference between political conservatism and personal conservatism, something that would be more common of a devout Catholic girl.

She´s kind of the best of both worlds...someone proudly raised in Strato 3-4 who has left her area of the country to study here in Armenia...she has her own unique sense of style, and she doesn´t adhere to the Studio-F, Bebe, Americano mall fashion regulations.
