Happy times in Cali

Hello, I have received many notes asking me about the special things that were on my trip to Cali. I had many but as usual I looked more then I photographed. I must tell all of you and it is only my opinion that Cali is a great place. Safe as safe can be but no different then larger cities. If you walk down the street with a lot of money in your hand alone in a dark alley after midnight then what do you think will happen DAH!
I will say that I spent time in all of the malls that I found very nice and interesting but the one thing that stands out best in my mind are San Antonio and the Archalogical Museum. I must tell you that I am totally NOT into museums. This was the exception however. I had a police man escort us through the Museum and to my surprise he offered because he heard me speak English. It was a great experience. I know and lot more about the history of Cali now. The church of San Antonio overlooks the city and at night was just beautiful. Reminded me a bit of San Francisco streets.
Look for the simple things to visit. The side streets, the vendors, the food and the friendly people on every corner. The busses? Jury is still out on that subject.
I will be going again next week and will post photos upon my return. My only advice is to keep your eyes open but have fun. The people are warm and friendly and caring. Those that I met were honest to a fault. I gave to much money to a drink stand and the lady ran me down to give me the change due me. I think the attitude of the people and the city will be a reflection of your own attitude toward the people and the city.
Be ready for a happy time and great memories.

San Antonio, simple things
I'm glad you visited Cali and listen your special words: safe, good people and that ordinary things that everybody remember. San Antonio! I love to walk around those houses from Colonial architectural influence, the vendors smiling you, the kids playing soccer, the skates girls,,,La Loma de La Cruz(guitars, singers, many girls and boys, many 40's hippies, and also that smell to marihuana..! that sells right there..what to do? Its the part of the La Loma's Air! families drinking a cup of coffee between 4:00-5:00pm!

So nice..I hope to see your pictures soon!
Adela

Well I'm planning to stay 4-6 weeks away from the cold ff you get my get the drift .... else ask DES about the weather ;-)

But I outlined my general idea here (just ignore the elmo mode that we drifted into).

Anyway I'm not ruling anything out anything yet. So if there's good suggestions in the area I'll take them into my considerations,

But read the thread there and judge yourself :D

If you want suuuuuuuun.. Hey YEP if u want some sun then go to the North Coast, I lived in Barranquilla til last year and have lot of friends (bilingual spanish-english) there that can help you, u can live a real experience with the Carnival. I recomend also the beautiful city of Cartagena (about 1,5 hrs by car and safe road) and Islas del Rosario (great Tropical Islands). Another good place to go is El Rodadero near Santa Marta city. I can recomend you people who help with places to stay and safe transportation... Just let me know...
You can Fly from Bogotá to any of those cities and then from there by car/bus. There is a special service of transportation in taxis that take 3 or 4 people (door to door), reasonable prices. You dont need to go to any bus station, which usually are little outside of cities.

He he .... looks like I'll have to aim for a Colombia round trip air pass to get it all under the hood.

OK I like the sun ... but I know I'll have to be very carefull with the sun comming directly from the cold and dark north ;-)

But as I love water that should help me a lot ;-)

It looks more and more like I just "need" to make a stop for the carneval up north (if I don't take the real carneval in Brazil ... he he). What is the actual dates for the carneval in Barranquilla
