Hey Bill, yes it's exactly the same. I don't know why US / Canada are different dates. In my family we make turkey with all the 'stuff' that goes along with it, mashed potatoes, veg, stuffing, pies. Carb overload but it's great.

I had my turkey dinner today. I hear it is Colombus day here in the good ole USA! It feels like Bogotá in Texas! It is cold depressing and wet. I love crappy dull weather! Who was Colombus? Was he that drunk sailor that dropped his compass into the water and shipwrecked in Cartegena? I was once asked what day do they celebrate Christmas in Canada (ground hog day?) That person must assume that Canada is evacuated after the first snowfall!!!

Jimbo, they DID steal their country from the natives.

UTC, they give Americans like 2 minutes worth of education in school about Canadian history so I'm sure you're right. No offense to Canucks (I was just kidding anyway) but I've never bothered to look into Canadian history either ... I guess I prolly just made that obvious. ;)

I'm living on the Tex Mex border. I'm handing out road maps to Mexican visitors. I printed off mapquest directions on how to reach Windsor from Laredo. With the skills shortage in Alberta there will be no problem for these people to get a Canadian VISA. I'm also encouraging Canadian snowbirds to offer rides to the Canadian border.
Also remember when you eat down here
Its ALWAYS the same. Thanksgiving, Christmas ,Breakfast, Lunch, Supper and
Dessert its ALWAYS the same...Tacos!!!!
Tacos!!!!! Tacos!!!!!

For the most part in Canada, the whites avoided the bloody massacres that the US West is famous for. Instead they let disease and starvation (eliminating the buffalo) do the job. Same results.

One interesting item regarding Canadian Indians is:

"The Jay Treaty, signed in 1794 between Great Britain and the United States, provided that American Indians could travel freely across the international boundary. The United States has codified this obligation in the provisions of Section 289 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) as amended. Native Indians born in Canada are therefore entitled to enter the United States for the purpose of employment, study, retirement, investing, and/or immigration."

BG, They "do." But they pretty much limit the scope of the lesson to the Capital being burned and the cause being Britain's efforts to stop our expansion and harm our international trade. American education is actually pretty embarrassing: Anything which might offend anyone, anywhere, for any reason is sanitized from the lesson. We're taught about our own forced displacement of American Indians but they don't really teach the full scope of it and instead kinda blame it on disease (as opposed to murder, rape, etc.). And even where they do sort of teach about us displacing the Indians they make it much more sound like their fault, like they were bad at growing crops so we needed to move them to feed people.

What I learned about the War of 1812 came on my own but I didn't really notice in there a huge Canadian effort against Indians. What I recall about that war relating to Indians was that the British were helping our Indians launch raids against our cities/expansions. Then again I'm far from a historian so that's probably far short of the whole story.

Oh WOW jimbo lol you're awesome!! I did get your sarcasm by the way but since we're on the subject...

No no I wasn't referring to anything against Indians with my 1812 comment. Considering it's a shared US / Canadian history lesson I was curious if they taught it in the states. Make sense? I spent a lot of time in Niagara Falls so I probably know a bit more than the average Canuck anyway. I'm also a geek and visit forts and love battle reenactments too. I was devastated as a child when we were going to visit Laura Secord's house, to find out there was no chocolate or ice cream there LOL. (don't know if you guys have Laura Secord in the States, it's a retail chain with yummy sweets).

BG, makes perfect sense. I've got this terrifically annoying habit of reading WWWAAAYYY more into stuff than is actually there, and in some cases reading stuff which isn't there at all. People love that. jajaja

But yeah I've been to the Falls many times. We used to have a fraternity trip every year through their en route to Toronto but seeing as it was a frat trip no one remembers much. I'm told I was once loaded back onto the bus by the unique combination of some random girl and a Canadian cop so I'd like to thank those two samaritans in absentia.

I can sympathize w/ you about your trip to Laura Secord's house. It's probably like my friend's trip to Graceland where he was tremendously disappointed that they didn't serve pills and what not. LOL
