Gomezman5 says on Dec 31, 2004, 17:41: May I be the First to have the honor to... Wish you the same !! Even though here in the midwest there are 4 hours and 15 minutes to go. My aunt is Swedish and she is married to a Colombian Jew. What a combination. Anyway, thanks for your intervention with Gary....I'm not arguing with him. If anything, I'm just egging him on because he told me to get out of his discusion.

Save the Wildcats says on Jan 1, 2005, 10:23: I feel bad for them... I hope the devastation ends relatively soon, but somehow I think the effects will continue to ripple on for a long, long time. How sad.

Mariangela says on Jan 1, 2005, 12:05: World tragedy I agree with Kim. It seems like the media in the US focuses a lot on the few stories of the "white" survivors or victims, when the vast majority of the victims where local, humble people, that lost their whole families and their homes. Those local survivors will have to face now the harsh reality of living in poverty and in a devastated land. I hope 2005 brings relief to all the people that have experienced such terrible loss. Desideria (Moderator) (Trustee board) says on Jan 1, 2005, 13:26: I agree wholeheartedly with both kim and mariangela. I have been positively surprised though, how the media here and also ordinary people talking about the tragedy have pointed out how the local people are doing their utmost to give succour to the hurt and desperate tourists in the area. How the thai people who maybe own two shirts would give both of them to these people who have lost everything. Almost everybody I know and have talked to in these last few days have donated money to help organizations, and people will not forget these random acts of kindness but will be there helping and rebuilding the devastated areas. Save the Wildcats says on Jan 1, 2005, 13:39: I saw where they had to stop people that had lost children in the tsunamis from adopting children that were orphaned (I think it was in Sri Lanka, and they wanted the people to go through official channels). That was sorrowful but beautiful, to think of so many people that had lost loved ones just picking up other needy children to raise as their own.

Gomezman5 says on Jan 2, 2005, 16:42: BBC better than US media? Sure it is if you like a biased, liberal, socialist, and essentially anti American perspective of the current happenings in the world.

My Philosophy for a Happy Life and New Year ; "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a attractive well preserved body but rather to Skid in Sideways, Cigar in one hand, favorite drink(aguardiente) in the other with the body throughly used up and screaming Woo-Hoo, What a Ride" on all fours as Elmo says!!! Hunter says on Jan 3, 2005, 10:23: For me BBC worlds reporting is a bit to biased and left leaning in their reporting, compared with CNN International which seems to offer better overall coverage.

Tinto (Moderator) (Trustee board) says on Jan 4, 2005, 18:22: Not very many but this site... ...says there are five or six thousand and nine synagogues. Another Google link showed addresses of 12 synagogues. And then there is the "myth" that the reason some of the people from the Medellin area are relatively prosperous relative to the rest of the country is because they have Jewish ancestry. David Bushnell, in his "The Making of Modern Colombia - A Nation In Spite of Itself" calls this myth basura.

juanalejo says on Jan 4, 2005, 18:37: Whipstatic Next time you are in Bogotá on a Saturday near Calle 94 with 7a you will see plenty roaming around among the body guards of some of them, you can even see some of the more traditional ones walking dressed in black with hats and long sidelocks. There are a few quite influential including ex ministra Fanny Kertzman and now ambassador in Canada if I recall correctly, the Gillinsky family ex owners of Banco de Colombia, and Leo Katz who owns quite a few of the restaurants and bars around the zona Rosa, including Luna and Il Pomeriggio.
