Happy Nations

While reading the post on Jennifer Lopez and Puerto Rican attitude that some of their women have I thought of an article that I read a long time ago.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3157570.stm

Supposedly Nigeria is the happiest nation in the world. This may come as a surprise to since Nigeria is one of the world’s poorest nations. I suppose this proves that $ doesn’t not assure happiness.

I was not shocked at all to see that Mexico and Venezuela made it in the top. Every time I go to both of those countries and meet people of those countries I can’t help but notice that they’re friendly and have good spirit. I’m sure Colombia is somewhere at the top also.

Also interesting when asked "All things considered, how satisfied are you with your life as a whole these days?" a ranking of "subjective well-being" for the following countries was achieved.

1. Puerto Rico
2. Mexico
3. Denmark
4. Colombia
5. Ireland
6. Iceland
7. N. Ireland
8. Switzerland
9. Netherlands
10. Canada

Pretty interesting, eh?

Wow Puerto Rico surprises me because they kill more than anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere in that place, and also you need a car to get around, which sucks.

Ireland surprises me because porn is illegal there. Who the fuck would wanna live there?

Marriage brings happiness? Hmm dunno about that one. Certainly not in my case!

Nigeria That's interesting about Nigeria as I believe its a conservative Islamic society. A former co-worker and roommate of mine was Nigerian. He had a PHD in Phsysics from MIT but worked as a computer programmer because there were no jobs for people with his qualifications(no research jobs). A profoundly religious gentlemen he must have converted 100 American blacks to Islam while we were working in CHicago:)

Money DOES help I suppose this proves that $ doesn't not assure happiness.

No,, but according to the following LIST it seems to be a fact in all but ONE case and that is NIGERIA. I CAN not find a ranking giving them a HIGH status.

Furnish a reliable link, I might add it,, although you can use the CIA Factbook for GDP per capita.

POOR is one thing. STARVATION is something else.

Colombia STILL ranks highest when all is considered.

Tinto is correct,---- about half are Christian Nigeria really does have a sizable Christian population as well. But Vladimiro, is also correct in that Chicago has a growing Black Islamic population as evidenced by the fact that it is also the home base ofthat rather racist and anti semetic person named Louis Farakhan.

I hope ilk of his nature never takes hold in our Colombia.

Ireland has seen phenomenally fast economic change It's at that 1/2 way point where the culture is still quite traditional, but their spending power is enormous.

I met some little old Irish people (siblings and spouses 70-80 yrs old) in Italy. They were sooo absolutely amazed to even have taken a plane and been able to afford to go "away" on vacation, it was really charming. I later went to visit them on their family farm in Ireland, and when I saw the 2-room stone cottage they lived in as kids I was really struck by the contrast in the situation. From farmers to skilled proffessionals, in less than one generation.

As for past times, well the Irish have their drink.

I think the Puerto Ricans are happy because they can claim the incomparable Elvis Crespo as one of their own.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Poco I think there is a difference between subjective well being and happiness so I suppose that is why the poor people of Nigeria are still the happiest... The way i see it money doesn't bring nations happiness but does bring up a nations well being.

And yes, Colombia is pretty much high up on both lists, which definately a good thing :-)

Anyhoo, this lists make me wonder why eastern europeans are so unhappy.... maybe its from drinking too much vodka :-P

nigeria do not believe they are the happiest people on earth - after having visited nigeria 3 times within the last 6 months i have experienced killings, muggings etc. and not only towards the "white" folks but also against nigerians themselves. they are extremely violent people and they have a bad reputation in all of africa, but then again if this is the reputation they wish then maybe that is why they are so "happy".

geee Maybe you were unlucky and the particular city you were in was the exception. Maybe the rest of Nigeria is happier :-(

Anyhoo, I definately believe that Venezuelans are happy people. I like em :-D
