We all know the drill...
Naive gringo meets opportunistic Colombiana...
...she keeps demanding money from him for dubious family emergencies
...they get married, go to the states, then she leaves him (taking half his stuff)
etc...
Any happy stories out there? Any gringo/colombiana (or gringa/colombiano) stories that have a happy ending, or at least that are going well so far?
I bet there are some...

Enrique187 says on Jan 16, 2008, 18:10: My father (gringo) met my mother (Colombiana) in Bogota while both worked for the United Nations. They moved to the US after 3 years working in Colombia and stayed married for 27 years until he died 2 years ago. That was a successful match.

fecherklyn says on Jan 16, 2008, 18:24: I'm celebrating this year my 10 th wedding anniversary with my (considerably younger) Colombian wife. I can only wish I had met her when much younger. She, in my eyes, displays NONE of the oft suggested reasons for searching marital ties beyond Colombia's frontiers. I think those PBH's posters who propose this to be the true nature of Colombian women deserve all they get.

adrienne79 says on Jan 16, 2008, 19:09: I'm the gringa married to a Colombiano. Met a bit over two years ago and got married in August so it is still a new relationship but none the less is working great. Rather than moving together to the states we moved from the states to Colombia. He had been living there for 8 years and we deided together it was time to move here. No plans to move back to the US, we are both happy here.

john_stark says on Jan 16, 2008, 19:53: There are no happy gringo/Colombiana stories. Anyone who says they have one is lying or else the other partner is running around on them and they haven't found out yet.

Chelesupercono says on Jan 16, 2008, 20:24: The only Colombiana/Gringo relationship that works 100% of the time is the PRE-PAGOS.........period......the rest are variations of normal misery, but nothing like the nightmare of the Gringas......that is a fate worse then death !!!! never go to bed with someone crazier then you are, you will do it and you will regret it....... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Enrique187 says on Jan 16, 2008, 20:26: then maybe the high percentage of gringo/colombiana relationships bomb because they had no foundation to begin with? (aka tourists falling in love with prepagos from the club after one week, guys falling for cazagringos/predator chicas that hang out in the gringo safe clubs, online relationships, etc) meetings like that are bound to fail.

Chelesupercono says on Jan 16, 2008, 20:59: Good point Chris....but the caliber of women is a bit distorted by the 20 to 30 years in age difference.......and that's the rub......the dumb ass Gringo actually thinks that she loves him......that is why he deserves the big chorizo......when really she loves his ATM card never go to bed with someone crazier then you are, you will do it and you will regret it....... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Robert Jorge says on Jan 16, 2008, 21:22: To answer the original poster's question - We are doing OK. We have had a few rough times, but have worked through them. It will be one year next month for our 1st anneversary, so I admit it is still early. Anyway, I think if you have a good woman / man, the most difficult challenge is the isolation they will feel. When they get to the US, they can't legally work, can't get a social security number, can't drive (usually), etc. So, they are totally dependant on you for the time being. That is rough on both people. Add that to the sheer culture shock of having nothing going on socially and with their family, and it can get pretty lonely for them. I think it is ESSENTIAL to warn your future spouse that the US does not have streets paved in gold, Disney Land isn't normal, money doesn't grow on trees, etc. Just because the US doesn't have the potential of the FARC stopping your bus outside of Atlanta and kidnapping you, doesn't mean that it is easy street either. --"I believe in making the world safe for our children. But not for our children's children, because I don't think that children should be having sex." - Jack Handy 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

chrispej says on Jan 16, 2008, 21:41: Robert, you bring up a good point about the U.S not being the wonderland Disneyworld type. I cannot tell you how many women in Colombia I've tried to convince that the U.S. that you see on TV is not the real thing. But can you blame anyone for wanting a better life? You know the saying, "The grass always looks greener on the other side."

john_stark says on Jan 16, 2008, 21:57: One of the standard staples of PBH is that a Colombiana worked flat on her back or on her knees before she met up with a gringo. Hell, I can't count the times that people here have referred to my wife as a whore. Do they know me or my wife? No, so who gives a fuck?

famsearch says on Jan 16, 2008, 23:55: y'know john, i've been around here for about 6-7 years now, and i don't think i've heard anyone here come even close to saying "a Colombiana worked flat on her back or on her knees before she met up with a gringo.". now first you insinuate either i'm lying, or my wife is cheating, and now, since i'm a gringo, and my wife is a colombiana, and we have met up, that she worked on her back, or her knees before we met? dan 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
