Hang gliding in Medellin? Anyone know? (NOT parapaente)

I'm really interested in learning how to hang glide -- I have seen a bunch of a posts about parapaente (para sailing) here in Medellin but nothing really about hang gliding.

Does anyone know if there are any instructors/schools/costs? The dynamics of Hang gliding are different, and to me, more exciting. I've done both hang gliding and para sailing in tandem (i.e. along with an instructor). If anyone else is interested, maybe we can try to get a negotiated rate!

Some pictures of hang gliding:

Here is what I found on Parapaente in Medellin if anyone is interested:

remember
Parapaente
is cheaper and easier to learn and for the mountains in Colombia it makes more sense than a typical hand glider

G'day mate,

Yes I have seen some hangliding being done on the drive through to the coast. It was on the north side of Medellin up in the mountains right on the main road.

I dont live in Medellin, so best bet would be to try and get up that way on a weekend and see what is happening.

rhydewithdis... I sent you an email today but if you're really set on hangliding still call Ruben he can find you a good instructor for that.

I haven't seen any hangliders in Medallo either but I would think its possible. I know they do it around Cali near Piedechinche(sp).

What I like about parapente over hangliding is the portability of the equipment and the ease of setting up. Once at a launch site I can be airbourne in 5 minutes... not possible w/ a hanglider. I can also check my gear in as checked luggage when traveling only weighs 15-25kg you have pay $$$ to travel with your hangliding gear as it won't be accepcted as checked luggage.

Another point... do you have a car in Colombia as you will need one to fly it. With a paraglider you can put in the back of a taxi, bus, friends car etc...

If you think parapente is boring just check out the videos on this site... http://parateam.com/images or go to San Felix around mid day and check out the crazy acro pilots there.

as I said before amigo... Call Ruben fly 310 517 7940

the problem with paragliding or hanggliding in Medallin is that you will probably be drowned or pummeled to death in these unending rain/hail storms.

PBHjon... yes LOL.

sport flying is very weather dependant... paragliding = parawaiting

L - Blue F.Y.I. The last time I flew was off a cliff above the Pacific ocean with a not so soft landing. In a nutshell I went splat up against a construction shed. It was either that or a concrete wall, I opted for the one with more flex. Bloodied from head to toe and embarrassed beyond belief but no broken bones so I can't complain too much. Tore a few lines but have since had them repaired by a certified tech out of Idaho.

I look forward to getting my gear down to Medello and flying there!

It seems to me the best place to fly would be Penyol/Guatape since the land there is beautiful. I imagine you could probably just hop off the giant rock, as long as you dont mind climbing 500 steps on the way up.

San Felix is the place to fly if you are in Medello. Close by and usually good conditions for flying.
