Hang (not Hand) Gliding in Medellin...

Another week, another question...

Any good or bad experiences hand-gliding in Medellin? Does it matter where you do it or who you do it with? It would be nice to know the best and the one's to avoid.

The only hand-gliding story on pbh so far is of someone accidently landing in Bello and getting kicked to death. Must have been a while back.

Thanks in advance.

Usher

I reckon you can do it anywhere as long as you keep it private. You can have a paisa glide her hand or use your own. It is a very common thing but people don´t really talk about it much. It has been said to cause blindness but that´s a myth. And I guess no, it doesn´t matter where you do it. But in Medellin you really shouldn´t have a need, plenty of willing paisas offering "the real thing".

What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been

LOL! that is funny...

when can we expect the guide, usher?

when you go up to biblioteca espana and look out northwest over the other side of the valley, there is an area where there is alot of hang gliding. when we were there, i could see about 20 of them over the other side of the valley. it did look close to bello...

Lisa, I hope usher won´t have his experiences talked about in all the newspapers but you never know, it´s all public and happy now ;-)

naeh, I don´t think so. Google it, the results on "hand gliding" are all "hang gliding".

There is a hang gliding / para-sailing club in Villavicencio. They go off the mountain overlooking town. I don't know any details. I just saw them floating around and saw the entrance to the club.

Lisa, you are funny...thought it was WTF? Did not know para-sailing was that popular there....even more interesting now! I had often wondered though what would seriously happen if one was to stray off the beaten path and accidentally fly over one's cocoa fields or encampments, believe my area Risaralda may be a bit risky for that, but the eagerness is there oh my.....now lisa, WTF! jaja.

Lisa Zee says on Apr 13, 2008, 15:33:

Well I said WTF, because I had no idea what he was talking about! I was hopping to read about a great experience, with hang gliding.

By the way, Hang Gliding and Para-sailing are 2 different things.

Yes indeed...definately would not try hang gliding....seen too many bad incidents, Para-sailing seems more relaxed and safer
