Thanks Webmanco.....i'll give them a call....

Yep GIB....the shipping is so expensive, it only makes sense to buy the best....Lifefitness or Precor gym ellipticals are so smooth.....an my knees need that....jajajaja

Miguel_Clavo says on Aug 10, 2007, 11:22:

anyone who thinks that StarTrac equipment is not one of the top 3 high end gym equipment obviously has not been in the loop for quite some time...and judging from some recent photos of some posters here, and the lack of any defined muscles or any muscles for that matter, a gym and its equipment are on the top of their most infrequently visited places or equipment used lists....=)....every non-ghetto highend gym in Californina is replacing thier LF and other equipment with StarTrac machines....Fitness is really going on in CA....must be the weather and the beach bunnies....=)......cheaper prices for equipment only means it wears out faster....duhhhh.....from Golds, Club 1, 24 Hour Fitness, LA Fitness, the exclusive Decathalon gyms, etc, are all using ST equipment......do your homework.....it pays off in the longrun......my friend is a equipment maintenance person for my gym, and he compares his job with the Maytag repair person television commercials...if you are aware of those..... but Frank, if you feel comfortable with a specific machine, and it works for you, go for it..have the battle is liking the machine enough to keep returning to it.......i am bringing a StarTrac treadmill, spinning bike, and probably one other machine with me....StarTrac has a new one out that is similar to an ellipt, but not exactly.....i will take a look at it this morning....

Well I like the Precor 576i but the feet are a little far apart. The 95xi Lifefitness is super smooth but you can't incline the step....so it's a toss up right now...you can get them refurbed for about 40% off.

Miguel_Clavo says on Aug 10, 2007, 12:32:

refurbed is the way to go if it is done at the factory or a reseller....if not, let the buyer beware....many of these machines are made and/or assemble in Southern California where i find the best new and refurb prices are.....i have never seen any high end stuff in the gyms i have used in Colombia.....they buy the best prices pieces.....inclines build calf muscles, so that is a plus....=)...have you checked out ebay.com? every now and then you can get a killer deal from someone who bought one but never used it......

Southern CA...love it....here's where i started buying yesterday...and shipping to miami... right there in southern CA....baby....

webmanco says on Aug 10, 2007, 13:24:

Although I do frequent gyms I am more into outside activities, yes even with Bogotás´s wheather, about equiptment I believe free weights are the way to go. For bikes it is a thousand times better outside. Spinning sucks.

The AP gym by Unicentro or the Elena del Mar by the road to la Calera are good ones.

i use spinning for cardio and calorie burning, as well as conditioning for long mountain bike rides....and of course, the female spinners in the class as well....jajjaja...sure makes my longer bike rides 50 miles or so through the hills much much easier......

We're ripping down walls and floors to put in 100 meters of 3/8 inch thick rubber floor, diamond plate 18 inches up the walls, mirrors to the ceiling and load that baby up with dumbells, cable crossover, ab bench, gotta have my gym.......i love 24 hour fitness...there's just nothing like it in colombia......

so we're importing our own....we're gonna blow AB up to Arthur Schwartznegger....jajajajaja

Hey Art...how do you say "i'll pump you up" in spanish...jajajajaj

Frank Rizzo says on Aug 10, 2007, 14:58:

I just have to comment that there seems to be a lot of testosterone in this thread! ;-) I'll leave you boys to your fitness/workout discussion.

But first....any yoga practioners in this bunch?? Now that's where you'll find lots of women guys bending over in downward dog! There's maybe 1-2 guys in my class, but 10-15 women. Mostly younger (i.e., under 30). It's quite a workout (especially Ashtanga or Power Yoga) and will loosen those tight hamstrings and hips that you men tend to have. Come join us!

When is that virtual pbh party you were hosting, Houstongal?
Am I gonna miss it, because I can't hook the computer up in de car?

houstongal says on Aug 10, 2007, 18:50:

I dunno GS....I didn't get much reaction to the idea of a virtual PBH party......

We like male yoga instructors....especially when they take their shirts off (which it seems that a lot do!). ;-) My instructor in Houston is quite popular....we think it's because he's cute and teaches sans shirt!
