Gun registration expiration grace period?

I heard on the radio the other day that a grace period of time was being granted to update gun permits that had expired without paying a fine. Any details?

The jest what I heard was there were many, many gun owners with expired licenses and in an attempt to legalize a group of these people, they were going to allow updating registration and weapon permits without fines or legal ramifications.

I agree with Frank, sounds like what Canada tried doing years ago, was it a success....NOT!! jaja. HOWEVER, knowing what Colombia has been through you cannot blame them for trying but the Gov't has a long way to go before any success! would not see me doing this,

As it stands - August 2008 (don't have the exact date handy) is the deadline to renew previously expired gun permits (law 1119). You do have to pay a fine though and stand in line for long hours at the CAN - Ministerio de Defensa - departamento de control y comercio de armas.

dwr,

The fines vary from City to City, by a lot, I was late renewing my license once, one Cities fine was 10 times the amount of another City, so I registered it in the second City, which was a fine of about 125,000 pesos at the time.
