Guia de rutas por Colombia

Guia de rutas por Colombia

This was highly recommended on Poorbuthappy a while ago. I’ve finally got my hands on one. I thought it was a road map but it isn’t really. Here is my review.

This is a book that comes out annually, I have the 2007 edition. It is book sized and very heavy as it has good quality paper with colour photographs. I would suggest getting it as a work of reference to be left at home. It is too bulky and heavy for lightweight travel, it is designed for people with a car judging by the adverts.

It is of course in Spanish being produced for Colombians. It is part guide book part road map. However I would prefer a standard road map rather than using the guide. It is very good on local attractions and hotels. For example it warns of a location without ATMs (Capurgana the town on the Panama border).

It has bus and aircraft routes. There are routes between major towns showing the elevation. It has town maps but these are too small. It has lists of attractions for each town and area.

However the actual maps are very small with tiny print, I wouldn’t want to use them for navigation.

So in conclusion, worth getting but get a proper map as well. I think I will carry my footprint guide book instead.

Sounds interesting. Is it available through any online bookstores here in the USA?

Are you referring to the AutoGuía Turistica de Colombia, from Legis? I have the 2007 edition of that one with 18 major routes mapped out. I love how they show the changes in elevation and temperature between cities on each route! It also has lists of attractions and festivals for each department.

It is very useful, but I would not call it heavy. Would be handy to have detailed street maps for major cities as well.

I went home to check, no it's what I said. It sounds similar to yours, what I want is a road map of Colombia, still looking!

I think I have the same book as the OP, 2007 edition. It is heavy. I see it as more of a reference book although it does sort of map major routes. I think I just picked my copy up in a store in Medellín.

I like it.
