The logic of violence is that you keep escalating until you use nuclear weapons. If both sides are not willing to sit down and talk out a solution, the use of nuclear weapons would destroy Colombia in order to save it from FARC.

Talking would be a more intelligent solution... unceasing efforts to bring FARC to the table. Is that happening?

platano, once again...your intentions are admirable, but I don't think that it's easy to achieve what you are proposing without cutting through a lot of barriers, both mental and physical, that affect both sides and the people in between. That takes time and effort, it's not something easily achieved.

Besides, strictly speaking...while the logic of violence, in theory, might lead to further escalation and death (though nukes are not a realistic option, just a desperate saying), that doesn't deny that sometimes a degree of escalation may be necessary in order to bring violence to an end. A painful one, perhaps, but a potential end nevertheless.

It's not the best solution, by far, and not the one that I would want to defend, but I can't deny that it's worked before, elsewhere.

That doesn't mean that it'll work in Colombia, of course, but all this simply serves to illustrate that there's no "definite" answer, no "road map", that will magically bring our conflict and all our other problems to an end.

A peaceful solution is preferrable, but, in order to get it to work, a lot will depend on external and contextual factors outside of our control. It will take time and random luck to figure it all out.

In the meanwhile, the war will go on. And while it does, it's the painful truth that we will continue fighting.
