GTA IVor other PS3 games in Colombia

At the risk of betraying my geeky side, I was curious as to whether GTA IV had been released in Colombia?

I bought it for my PS3 and noticed that you can turn on subtitles and menus in Spanish and French. Consequently, I was curious if it had been officially released in Colombia.

For that matter, are any PS3 games released in Colombia. When I'm there, the last thing I want to see is anything resembling a computer, so I never bothered to look or ask.

How old is your son Kat? It really is extremely violent and has a lot of offensive content. It is definitely not for kids. In fact, in the US, minors are not supposed to be able to buy it.

However, it is quite fun and a very impressive technical achievement. It was actually programmed somewhere in the UK.

No jodas hombre.

I got GTA 4 on the 29th. I am now addicted. I will not be posting as much on PBH for a while.

By the way, one of the radio stations you can listen to while driving is called San Juan Sound. All reggaton, and it is DJed (his actual voice) by Daddy Yankee.

gringoloid says on May 3, 2008, 11:01:

RJ, is GTA 4 for vista or xp? Is it setup the same way, doing missions?

mranderson says on May 3, 2008, 13:23:

So far I haven't been able to find gta 4 for the playstation. One place had it for the x-box. playstation in colombia is down to 1 million pesos.

mranderson says on May 3, 2008, 16:38:

RJ, how are the graphics on gta 4 compared to gta san andres? Is the game play much better? Is it worth buying a playstation 3 for?

Robert Jorge says on May 3, 2008, 21:53:

I have a Sony LCD that is capable of 1080p HD. The game's, GTA 4, maximum is 720p ... which is still awesome compared to normal TV sets. I have it hooked up with a HD connection, and fiber optic connection for sound to a Bose surround system. The sound is the best I have ever heard out of a video game. Period.

I guess you can hook the PS3 to your Internet connection and play Online. I am not interested in that, and am too dumb to even try and figure that out.

Robert Jorge says on May 3, 2008, 22:18:

mranderson - I bought the PS3 in anticipation of the game. I LOVED San Andres. So far, GTA 4 has not diappointed me in the least. The graphics are at a whole different level than than San Andres. What is cool (obviously) about the PS3, is that it can be used to watch BluRay movies, you can hook-up to the Internet, and you have a hard drive built into the system. 40 gig is "normal", but an 80 gig can be bought. I think the hard drive can be upgraded / replaced, and I know you can hook-up an external hard drive to the system - if you so desired.

The price of the PS3 is fixed in the US. It is impossible to buy one for less than $399 from a legit retailer. (Which is right at a million cop) I can get them for $382 including sales tax - I can't explain how on an open forum. But that is basically a 10% discount - similar to what a person would get if they were employed by a retailer like Sears or Best Buy.

Frank Rizzo says on May 3, 2008, 22:50:

Hey RJ...just re-read your post...i'm interested...

mranderson says on May 4, 2008, 08:04:

RJ, I read a review online that said gta 4's graphics are less than HD at 640 for the ps3 and 720 for the x-box. That's why I was curious.

Also, do all the cables required for hd gaming and surround sound come in the box? I know I can watch hd movies on it too but honestly where in medellin can I rent hd movies? I have a hard enough time trying to find normal quality movies.

kat1 (Moderator) says on May 4, 2008, 13:22:

mrandenson that's what my son told me he said the X-box version have a better frame rate.

romy says on May 6, 2008, 08:01:

I didn't know you could solicit hookers in this game. Seems to me like people that play this game get into it because in it they can imagine they are doing things that wouldn't be socially acceptable for them to do in real life. What else? deal drugs, kill people, steal cars, be a thuglife... hahaha wow. definately not my cup of tea.

GTA IV Still the Hottest Subject on the Internet

First it was the bugs which plagued its launch, the budget and the soundtrack. Then the controversies and the MADD stuff. It seems like Grand Theft Auto IV is and endless source of subjects for the debates taking place on the Internet. The latest controversies are linked with the Australian version of the game, which was apparently censored, and the fact that the game is apparently also sold to minors even though it carries a Mature rating. Also, the multiplayer mode has shifted into gear as most die-hard fans have already completed the single-player mode of the game.

It appears that the Australian version of GTA IV is marked by several censorship modifications. The main character Niko can still solicit hookers but when the implied sexual intercourse or oral/hand job occurs the game camera shifts to a tight shot of the rear of the vehicle and it cannot be moved to peek inside the car. In comparison, the version distributed elsewhere allows the moving of the camera which reveals humping scenes with the characters clothed.

Also, Gavin McKiernan, National Grassroots Director, Parents TV Council, has issued a comment which highlights that the Mature-rated game is marketed unscrupulously to young audiences. McKiernan alleges that the adult game should be treated just like any other adult products, which means it should not be marketed to youth and the general population and it should be keept instead behind counters and out of reach and sight of youth.

The online gameplay which kicked off in force recently has revealed the strengths and weaknesses of GTA IV's multiplayer system. It appears that of the 15 different modes of online play, some are very good, some are not really worth it and most of them are just good. The top game mode appears to be GTA Race, in which you can assault one another's vehicles, and even carjack one another. Actual FPS-like modes are not very appealing, as the game lacks the gaming experience found in dedicated games such as Call of Duty or Halo.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) decided to pull all ads promoting Grand Theft Auto IV. In April this year, a Fox affiliate said that the game ads were being pulled out from buildings and buses by CTA, despite the $300,000 campaign agreement between CTA and Take-Two.

According to the agreement, the ads had to be displayed over a period of six weeks throughout Chicago, starting April 22. However, just days after they first appeared, the CTA took them out, telling GameSpot: “CTA guidelines require ads to be truthful, and not directed at inciting imminent lawless action. They cannot be legally obscene or portraying graphic violence.

Last week, former DJ and label manager Ivan Pavlovich, the man behind Grand Theft Auto IV's soundtrack, has opened up to MTV about the process of picking the 214 songs which eventually made up the mega-successful game's music background. Pavlovich apparently made up a list of some 850 songs he wanted into the soundtrack, and asked some 2,000 people responsible for their rights if they want to license them. That might not seem like much of a problem, if you fail to consider that the developers did not want to reveal what they wanted them for.

The music tracks can be purchased directly from the Amazon.com online music store thanks to a feature of the game that allows players to tag a song, find out more about it and buy it. Music labels couldn’t be happier: the game’s success could turn into a music industry success, as many players are likely to purchase some of their favorite tracks in the game, with just a touch of a button (yes, there is a buy button).

Robert Jorge says on May 6, 2008, 10:05:

The HD cables do NOT come with the PS3 package. As far as I know, there are no BluRay players sold with the HD cables. This is where the retailers can make a good profit - cause they don't make it on selling the BluRay player or game console. A small 3 foot HDMI cable costs $27 dollars in Walmart!!! And that is the cheapy, Phillips brand. You can get HDMI cables off the Internet for a fraction of the price that regular retailers sell them for.

I have my TV picture set to default to the maximum resolution that the source produces. When I play a BluRay movie, it is 1080p. When I play GTA 4, the TV displays 720p. I assumed that meant that the game was in 720p quality, but I can believe that it is even less than that. I never knew.

PM me Frank. I can't buy dozens of them, but I could definitely get a hold of one every now and then.

kat1 (Moderator) says on May 6, 2008, 11:18:

RJ maybe in the USA no, but here in the UK the ps3 came with the DH cable, Bluray everything

I like seeing my son play on line, not just GTA but other games too and when they use the headset it's weird too hear so many languages..

mranderson says on May 6, 2008, 11:27:

What cables would I have to buy? I already have an hdmi cable. Do I need to buy extra cables for the surround sound?

I haven't been able to find GTA 4 here in medellin yet. In fact everyone is telling me that the game hasn't even been released yet.

Anyone coming to medellin and could sell me GTA 4?

kat1 (Moderator) says on May 6, 2008, 11:30:

check mercadolibre.com

ColombianoGringo says on May 6, 2008, 14:06:

If you need good quality audio or video cables in the US at a great price, check out monoprice.com. Their quality is better than any overpriced garbage like Monster cables that you'd buy at big box stores and their prices are a lot cheaper. They have high quality HDMI cables for under $5 whereas even Walmart charges at least $30. They also have all kinds of Hidef cable adapters, switchers, etc.

HDMI cables carry both video and audio. You only need that to connect to a TV. To connect to an amp, you would want to use a digital optical cable.

Robert Jorge says on May 6, 2008, 16:45:

Kat1, the PS3 is sold with cables to hook it up, but they are not HDMI. And yes, one of the "selling points" of the PS3 all along was that it was Bluray capable.

Mranderson: If your surround system is already hooked up to your TV or TV tuner, you don't have to have a connection directly to the PS3. The one HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV provides everything - audio and video. Then, it is dependant on your TV what you do with audio out. My surround is a little older, 2003 Bose, so it doesn't have all the connections. I have a fiber optic line into the surround receiver, directly from the TV's optic out. I use HDMIs into the TV from my Bluray and PS3.

Robert Jorge says on May 6, 2008, 16:47:

I just read that ColombianoGringo explained it a little better than I did.

mranderson says on May 6, 2008, 16:51:

RJ, Ok thanks. My tv only has 1 hdmi port which I use for my home theater. I thought maybe when playing I would unplug the hdmi from the theater and plug it into the playstation. I wasn't sure how the surround sound would work...if I had to run cables directly into the home theater or just use the cables I have from the tv sound into the theater.

Or do I plug the playstation into the home theater and run the video from the home theater up to the tv?? Well I don't know. I still haven't bought the damn thing yet. I was going to wait until I can find gta 4 and hopefully buy the system and game together at a discount.

ColombianoGringo says on May 6, 2008, 18:29:

mr a, You can get a switcher if you don't have enough hdmi inputs.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=101...

mranderson says on May 6, 2008, 19:22:

nice idea with the switcher. But I don't have a problem unplugging the theater in order to plug in a game console. It's no big deal. That extra few seconds of work won't justify buying a switcher, unless i had to have 2 hdmi cables running at the same time.

Robert Jorge says on May 6, 2008, 19:52:

Switcher .... or simply: PS3 to TV with HDMI. Then, Fiber optic out from the TV to the theatre. The fiber optic line is pretty cheap. I paid $12.99 for a 6 footer at Walmart.
