curramberochris says on Aug 21, 2007, 07:43: A cedula is just an ID card. You can open bank accounts but banks usually require you to have an indefinite contract to secure a mortgage.....Although if you are pretty wealthy Im sure they would bend the rules.

vicshere says on Aug 21, 2007, 09:57: your best credit is getting a "fiador" co-signer....which is really a person with assets more than credit.....I guess credit doesn't mean much in Colombia....its what you have or somebody else has... listo 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

JoeG says on Aug 21, 2007, 10:01: it seems possible to get credit, but I don't know if 12% is the gringo rate or if that is what everyone pays.

Robert Jorge says on Aug 21, 2007, 11:58: My wife's mother financed a modest computer at Alcosta in Villavicencio. It required 2 separate trips, documents including her current house lease, proof of current employment, etc. When she was finally approved, she picked the 1 year, 12 payments plan at 23%. My point is, it wasn't easy for her to obtain credit, though possible, and the interest rates were ridiculously high. They actually had payment plans that went out to 5 years for buying a computer. --"I believe in making the world safe for our children. panthdave says on Aug 21, 2007, 14:32: So after showing assets for credit card application is the credit card unsecured or secured in Colombia..which I mean they secure the credit line on the credit card with the assets or is just insecured if you default.. panthdave Miami 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Robert Jorge says on Aug 21, 2007, 19:22: In my example's case, it had to be unsecured. She doesn't own a home, and I do not think she even has a bank account. She certainly doesn't have anything of considerable value (dinero-wise). --"I believe in making the world safe for our children. RussianFred says on Aug 21, 2007, 22:49: Thank you guys for the info. It seems like a Gringo will never be a Colombian. Annual Drug Deaths: Tobacco: 395,000, Alcohol: 125,000, 'Legal' Drugs: 38,000, Illegal Drug Overdoses: 5,200, Marijuana: 0. Considering government subsidies of tobacco, just what is our government protecting us from in the drug war?--Ralph Nader 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
