Great News!!! But now what??? What will happen next???

I dont know much about FARC. To be honest, I have learned much today about these military rebels. But what will happen now? Will this be a big enough blow to the rebels? Will FARC end its fight? Will it end peacefully? Will President Uribe strike now. Will nothing happen? Is the cocaine business in Colombia to big to ever stop the FARC? What will be done for the 700 hostages still in captivity? Can FARC seek asylum in neighboring countries? I "think" if Presidemnt Uribe puts the pressure on now, FARC will surrender, and the hostages will be released. Or maybe I am being Naive. I guess it is just wishful thinking!!! What is your opinion?

now they will get mad mad start blowing up things , and start kidnapping again to get someone to put more pressure with!!!
FARC cannot seek asylum anywhere but in venezuela and certainly the amazon jungle is big enough for them ,they dont need to move i guess.

and I dont think they will surrender ,after 40 years surrender must be the least ,I hope Uribe runs again for presidency and be elected again coz he is the onyl one that can defeat those bastards! and like Ingrid said " lets have hope in our army!" ...
for now on I think colombia will be even more unsafe ,FARC will strike back in their own coward style killing innocents

I am more worry is what will happened to the rest of the hostages?
Now that Ingrid is Free i hope the Government, Chavez and France this last two specially who were pocking their noses in our politics all the time keep fighting for the released of all of the other hostages. I hope they don't forget that there is still lots of hostages held in the jungle by the Farc and ELN and they do as much as publicity like they did with Ingrid.

well not legally ,but having chavez and nicaraguas president as best friend ....

I think is a fact most of farc leaders has a venezuelan identity card ... also i think the vast amazon doesnt have such border things you cna just simply go around without seeing people for a looong while for all i know...

besides guerrilla group sendero luminoso from peru is regrouping and helping out farc too coz most drugs is send all the way down from the jungle labs to the ports in other countries using the amazon river as a big highway.

as for what i have heard many come to europe posing as fake victims of some armed group and start working in europe to ain adepts or something ..read about it sometime ago

I think they will be hard to beat - they would not just give up and their will be a long political process to achieve that (incentives for surrender - they are not going to give in to face life in jail). The other hostages must be going through hell at the moment - everyone would be under suspicion and they would be being moved all the time to try and negate further rescues.

I would also hazzard a guess that if the FARC wanted to retaliate in some way, it would not be too difficult? Even a one off strike, or attempt, against a foreigner in Bogota or another large city would give them a political type impact to ''prove'' that they are still a force to be taken seriously. The international media woudl jmp on it.

This is assuming they have the political will to continue; however I would think that the lure of big dollars with the drug money will keep themgoing!!

I want to repeat, "I do NOT know much about this situation". I have been watching CNN here in the U.S. It has been reported that FARC has about 8,000 men/women. They have atleast 3 known base's. I do not want to see any bloodshed, but it seems as if the Colombian army could assumingly crush them at anytime. I would think if there was a massive operation against them, that rather than fighting they're own country men, they would lay down their weapons. I have read about much progress in Colombia. In my "opinion" Colombia will become like a capital for all of South America, And a symbol of greatness. From what I have seen, I think you have a beautiful country!!! Besides the U.S. what other countries have been a great support in all facets for the overall growth of Colombia? Is there a great swelling in Colombia to rid the country of FARC? Or are there many hidden local or foreign supporters? And if you can, please say a prayer for all the hostages that are still captured, and that they do not suffer anymore than they already have!!!

this is the straw that broke the camels back....the beginning of the end. of the thousands of insurgents, many thousands are there against there will. now, the driving force behind these groups has been decapitated. little by little, the fighters will hang it up and go home. when you get down to the nitty-gritty of this mess, it's over. colombia wins. and why? because even the insurgents are colombians and they, too, want a normal life.

Do you seriously think he could possibly do any worse then Bush has done at the wheel of state? Over 70 percent of the American Public when polled recently, say the "US is headed in the wrong Direction" under Bush...

Some general involved, Freddy?, said they could have killed the 49 FARC members on the ground while Cesear and another in the chopper were subdued. As a "Humanitarian gesture" they did not fire on them.

Uribe would be wise to try to negotiate BUT in say 3 months or 6 months the FARC balks then he probably will send the military after them. Uribe's own father was killed by the FARC right? So if 700 hostages are killed then you can't really say that Uribe does not know the pain of that. So, will Colombia be ready to pay the price of finally eliminating the FARC militarily?

My wife says that until the people of the countryside have jobs and education and social services then none of this will ever matter and the criminality will continue......

There's nothing that says that they can't go after the FARC even harder now, meanwhile keeping the door open to serious negotiations.

public radio news (pbs) this am. an american petrol company was secretly hooked up with a petrol contract in north iraq by the bush administration. the central govt of iraq objected and then the bush admin. denied they had sat it up. unfortunately--or fortunately--sen waxman produces e mails that lay the bullshit bare. the administration did set it up. hmmmmmm imagine that?
