Great new Italian restaurant on La 33 in Medellin (Vitto's Ristorante)

I passed by this place numerous times over the last month or so and have been meaning to stop in.

Yesterday, I stopped by with a friend for dinner here and I have to admit, I was impressed. It is run by a Paisa who lived/studied/working Italian cooking in Atlanta, GA for 10+ years. He has now returned and opened up this quaint restaurant a month and a half ago.

They have a pretty good menu, good pasta and a decent wine list. Appetizers are mostly all under 10mil, entrees go from 12mil up to around 25mil A nice bottle of Cabernet was around 22mil. Bill for two came out to 74mil, we didn't order desserts. Obviously not backpacker prices who will subside on street Chuzo, but definitely a nice place for dinner.

Vitto's Ristorante
Calle 33 #74 B 310

By the way, the chef/owner speaks perfect English!

A nice bottle of Cabernet for 22k is hard to believe, was it a split or a full 750 ml bottle? Please confirm this is what you meant to write. Sounds too good to be true but I guess it's possible. Which cab was it? Gato Negro, Casillero de Diablo o que?

I'll definitely check it out!

Thanks for the recommendation.

I went here last night and I’m sorry to say it wasn’t good at all. In fact, it was the worst meal I have had since I came to Colombia 2 years ago.

The "garlic bread" was the cheap sweet bread... almost long-life... you buy in any corner shop. It had a little butter, I couldn’t taste any garlic. The "chicken" was indistinguishable from the slightly fatty kebabs you get on the street. Horrible.

I didn’t dare try a dessert.

If you want good Italian... go to Crispino’s... it’s cheaper and better... no contest

It's amazing how two people could have totally opposite experiences/opinions at/of the same place. We need a third person to go try it and give us the tie breaker.
