Good afternoon everybody
I want to share my "colombian" experience with you.
I am a mexican woman (yes I know here is some mexican rejection, or at least that it seems) who traveled to Colombia for the first time two years ago. I work in an international american company in Mexico and I had the chance to meet a colombian girl who worked for the same company in its branch in Bogota. Needless to say that we became very good friends and one day she invited me to go to Colombia, I always wanted to do so but time and (why not accept it) the lack of money did not allow me to. Although Mexico is really dangerous most of my friends and family tried to "open my eyes" by telling me that Colombia was a really dangerous place to go. I decided to go anyway. And I don't regret it, it was one of the most beautiful and rewarding experiences of my life.
When I arrived at Eldorado airport my friend was there along with her father waiting for me and with some beautiful white roses in her hands as a gesture of welcoming, I stayed at her home with her family, as I entered the living room I saw a big "Bienvenida a Colombia". I dined Ajiaco (delicious) that night and had a delicious chocolate. Next day I got up early and visited then Zipaquirá and some other places. Three days later it was my birthday and they celebrated it with me as if they had known me for years, a gesture that I will never forget. Anyway I don't want to bother you with those details but I'd like to say that after two years I have visited Colombia four times so far and I'll be back to visit "my colombian family" next month. They treated me like part of their family and I thank them for letting me be part of their lives as well. I don't know whether Colombia is safer than the US or not , I don't really know. The only thing I have to say is that my best friend is colombiana, paisa and do not fit in any of the stereotypes I have read on PBH. I really like Bogota and I am looking forward to visit Medellin, Cali, etc, etc, etc soon.
Gracias Colombia por permitirme conocer a gente hermosa. Siempre los llevo presente y siempre los llevaré en mi corazón.
¡Que viva Colombia!

Robert Jorge says on Sep 16, 2007, 16:45: Glad you had such a nice experience. First of all, I don't think there is "Mexican rejection" here. There have been heated debates pertaining to immigration in the US, with obviously Mexicans being part of the issue. But I doubt anybody here has any ill-feelings personally towards Mexicans, simply because of their nationality. There are actually several people who are Mexican nationals and people of Mexican heritage who are members of this site. I won't list their names, but that's the truth. So, please don't worry about that. I think I can safely speak for 99% of the people here, by saying welcome aboard and hope you stay and contribute to this site. --"I believe in making the world safe for our children. webmanco says on Sep 16, 2007, 18:12: Thanks for sharing with us, there is not rejection towards any country in Colombia, just bad or erroneus thinking. Bogotá got lots of Mexican restaurants, that should said something. I heard about one where they do marriages the Mexican style, just for fun, for one night. But, I'm going to start making some assumptions here.... Which means I might actually end up making an ass out of myself ..........Thu 04 17, 2008 11:34 am |
