And much more. This site got my attention when I was surfing a few days ago. (Google: The Hospitality Club, Free accommodation) I thought it would be of some interest to those of you who are perhaps mote than just casual travellers.
There are 90,323 members in over 200 countries. Here are some:
Germany 18,580 (by far the largest)
USA 9,601
UK 3,501
Canada 2,850
Brazil 3,141
Argentina 1,238
And yes Colombia is there with 254, which for me was a surprise, I am not sure why, because I know of the friendly and helpful nature of the Colombian people. I also noted that there are many people planning to trek through Colombia, I am not really sure of the wisdom of such an expedition at the moment. I must also be lacking in something in my three and a half working brain cells because that is exactly what I intend to do myself.
For someone, or a small group, there are thousands of people willing to offer not only free accommodation, but in many cases, act as a tour guide and travelling companion for periods of time from 1 day to infinity.
Volunteer workers are actively sought, and although there may be ulterior motives in some cases, as in life in general, these all appear to be genuine people.
The history of the site is in the opening menu and its aims and ambitions are all stated, being mainly about hospitality, exchange of information, friendships, peacemongering, contact on a more cosmopolitan way in general.
Perhaps some of you may already be members? Or may wish to take up something that is offered.
