The wedding was in Centro at 8am. I spent the night with my expat girlfriends in La Candeleria and we walked down to Notaria 12 and met my Husband-to be there. There were also about 150 men straight out of jail lining up outside another office next door to get their new cedulars, along with loads of riot police! Did i pick a spot or what!
But it was fine, they saw me with my flowers all dressed up andwith girlfriends in tow and guessed the occasion so the comments were pretty polite considering.
Everything in the notaria ran smoothly, although i thought the whole page and rant that came with that page on ways to dissolve the marriage a bit unsettling. It was a little surreal and I kept looking over at my partner as the man talked with a very stern disposition and our friend whos an offical translator talked into my ear. Within the vowls I liked the whole equalality thing, but after all that talk it was only my husband who needed to sign the final marriage certificate at the very end. We also had to get them to make it again on the spot because the spelled my first name wrong.
All this was followed by breakfast at a wonderful french restaraunt up the hill in the La candeleria in the open courtyard, and with the amazing wheather.
It was so yummy and i was shocked at how cheep we picked up the tab for 8 peoples breakfasts who ate what they wanted and it was a tiny $33.000 pesos! unbieleveable.
So as far as I am concerned we are married but to Colombians the Notaria it is just a formality so we have a party in Medellin with my husbands extended family in a few weeks which is when I was told I could wear my wedding dress, which was too much for this little notaria thing.
I still felt like today was a big big day and Im so greatful to my girlfriends for making a fuss and coming along to watch. I keep looking at my parnter and thinking in my head....your my husband and im your wife!!(obvious I know!!!!)
Its all so new and feels so grown up!Although we are far from babies, apart from that things feel exactly the same. between us.We both feel much more relaxed though.
Anyway it was a minor mission arranging papers so should anyone need current advice, feel free to ask. Will post a pic soon. Thanks to everyone who helped me out with bits of info! :)
