Goose Down in Colombia?

Does Colombia produce goose down or does it have to be imported?

Three years ago I bought my grandmother and great aunt two goose down duvets because I just love them. What a waste of money that was!!!!

the only place down clothing would be applicable would be the alta plano and so few go there,it wouldn't be a viable product in the colombian market.

many years ago, while at studying at berkeley, i worked for the ski hut (donner mtn corp) and we mfg high altitude clothing and sleeping equip. we used 1,000's of lbs of goose down, both white and grey. all the down came from scandinavia, northern europe and russia. never heard of it being a "cash crop" here in the western hemisphere. possibly out of northern canada.

Nope, no one in Bogota or Manizales ever wears leather coats, sweaters, scarves, or caps because of the WARM weather.

Duvets is a bedspread. Sometimes they are stuffed with down.

Yes, down would be useful in some parts of Colombia but if it has to be imported, it may be too expensive for the average Colombian. People in Bogota dress like they are in the North Pole when its only 50 degrees. Its common to see people with puffer coats and ski masks in Bogota. Down might be good for them because it is light weight and breathable.

I see lots of North Face jackets around - I'm sure they have goose down.

Down is the best. I have a huge down jacket that I use over my jacket when I rest or eat ski touring. It's impossible to get cold even in -40.

No problem is so formidable that you can't walk away from it.

Down is only good in cold **dry** places-take it from someone who lives in the rainforest.

--------------------------------
They're bedspreads filled with down, mainly goose down and the good quality ones can be pretty pricey. They're usually all white but you can buy duvet covers of any color or pattern to make them look nice. I personally buy my own fabric and make the covers myself.

But anyway, they're too warm for MedellĂn.

i know those as down cumforters. thak you charlie and diana.

the thermal properties of down are know as 'loft'. the higher the loft, the greater the heating (heat conservation) factor. amongst different downs, gray has the lowest loft, white a little more and the highest and clearly most expensive is know as "eider" down. this is the down from gosslings.

all the years i was studying at berkeley, i worked for this company that mfg all manner of high altitude clothing equipment. the founders of north face, granite staircase, gerry mountain, and many others, studied under my boss, mr. george rudolf. he was the sage of mountaineering in the u.s. his employees made the first successful assault on el capitan. alan steck and steve roper. another close associate was yvonne chinaurd. developer of the new generation of hi tech pitons. most specifically the R.U.R.P.....'realized ultimate reality piton'....i don't remember which, but either steck or roper fell on el cap and had their ass saved by a rurp. it's a hairline crack piton, 1/8" thick X 1 1/2" long X 1 1/4" wide. a little bitty bugger. but it saved one of those guys on their assault.........just an aside.

Generally they are rated as TOG higher the Tog higher the insulation ,saying that I stayed in San Vicente on the way from Pereira ,Anserma (Caldas) to Riosucio (Caldas) where I used to teach English my Academic Directors mother lived here Jesus the difference in temperature from Anserma & Riosucio is unbelievable (I did have a bit of a cold as well ) but probably the only time I think I could have done with a Duvet here.

Yes thats why we live in the 21st century where you can go to any market Colombia and buy them miraculously with no feathers on them already. jaajajajaja lol.. Plus never fuk with a chickens feathers, thats where the bird flu lies dormant.
