Google Earth and colombian cities

I'm really surprised that Google Earth has a good view of Medellin, you can zoom in and see houses and streets but you choose Bogota and the photos suck, they're blurred. That's surprising considering that Bogota is the capital and Medellin is not.

i've seen that too... from what i had seen, it looks like it all depends on the weather on the day the pics were taken. medellin on a pretty clear day, bogota on a cloudy one. i know what you mean, once i picked out a familiar landmark (exito in bello), i was able to find all kinds of places, the church we were married in, etc...

This Google thing is AMAZING!!!! I could actually see the burro trail where I was born in La Guajira. This trail is the same one my ancestors have used for thousand of years. I was born half way between a small town south of Riohacha and la Ciudad Perdida where my maternal grandfather was born. To this date, this trail continues to be traveled by my people on donkey back.
Thank you for sharing this site, looking at my birthplace from above, I see that still continues to be a very lost, undeveloped part of Colombia. Most Guajiros wanna keep it like that. If it were up to me, I’ll build casinos, hourly rate hotels and hundred of bars all along the coast line.

I officially launch Elmodefoque's campaing.... We should elect him to the colombian senate or at least as governor of Guajira and hopefully his excellent (I'm not kidding...) ideas could be implemented. Otherwise that region is going to be the same way it's been forever...empty lands and poverty all over.

You can make your way around Cartagena pretty well too. I can make out several familiar places.

Maplandia.com This site uses Google maps to find almost any town in Colombia or the world for that matter. It provides a little more information than the standard Google maps site. It organizes everything by department, etc.

I really think I got great ideas for the west coast of La Guajira. If I could get Donald Trump to finance my ideas, I could turn that area into Colombia’s Las Vegas. Hotels to fit every budget. Bring bus loads of paisa girls for our high roller gamblers.
One of the most difficult obstacles I face in implementing my ideas is coming from the village elders. They wanna keep their traditional ways. I say we poison those old modefoques. Once we feed them a sancocho laced with rat poison, I’ll be next in line to lead my entire people outta poverty.

Nahh Its the same imagery that they have on their online maps (can't find the link but its an automap thing), remember the smog that we all know that Bogota has....

Other cities sometimes have clearer photos becuase the local government can provide Google with their airphotos. We've got a great online mapping system with high-res airphotos here (ie can see people walking), and it's available online for anyone to see.

Colombianboard Isn't it more surprising that Bogota, considering it's the capital city, does NOT have a METRO and Medellin does?

Villavicencio is clear as crystal. Looking at it from the satellite gives me an idea how far I actually walked everyday. Unbelievable. A Realtor told me his company pays for him to have the Google Earth that is a subscription. He said it is $600 some dollars, but is so clear and sharp, you can often see people and animals.

BEWARE of gold diggers.
