Goodbye Scotty......

For those of you who have been online friends of Scotty (aka John), I wanted to give you some very sad news. The following was posted on his CarePage today:
-----------------------------------------
John passed away Sunday, April 5

To all of John's friends and loyal supporters:

Thank you for your prayers and continued support throughout this long ordeal for John. It is a great sadness to us that just when it seemed he might have beaten this disease for a second time, it was just too much for his body. Sunday he was stricken with a fatal heart attack.

The family is gathering and plans are in progress, but nothing has been firmed up yet. I will be leaving soon to catch a flight to join the family, so this is the last posting on this site. Thank you again, for using it to keep watch over John.

God bless you all.

With deep gratitude and appreciation for your friendship,

John's Family
-------------------------------------------
John was undergoing radiation treatment for cancer that was found in his spine. He was in good spirits and was committed to beating this and getting on with his life. How sad that the PBH community has lost a member to this disease.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
I had some lively discussions here on PBH Scotty and me, didn't always agree, but respected each other's opinions and points of view.
He loved Colombia, showed a great strength and endurance in his illness and I always wished him well and supported him in his struggle.
Goodbye, fellow PBHer and Colombia lover!

To John, who will be sadly missed.

Recompensaré a mis viejos

Necesitada y no te puedo dar

A veces lloro al sentirme impotente
Son tantas cosas que te quiero dar
Y voy a luchar incansablemente
Porque tú no mereces sufrir más

Los caminos de la vida
No son como yo pensaba
No son como imaginaba
No son como yo creía

Los caminos de la vida
Son muy dificil de andarlos
Dificil de caminarlos
Y no encuentro la salida"

Scotty was one of the first guys that I became friends with when I officially joined PBH around 3 years ago. I just don't know what to say. I had looked forward to the get together we had all planned in Colombia when Scotty (John) was well again. We had also planned to go hunting in Arizona for wild pigs. jaja I regret never meeting Scotty outside of cyberspace. But I am thankful I met him here - even though not face to face. I won't forget you buddy. RJ

Gloid, Scotty and I were going to tear your conspiracy ass a new hole (with a few beers and laughs). Damn I am going to miss that rendezvous. I so looked forward to hanging with you guys in beautiful Colombia. I haven't cried in a LONG time, but I did when I first saw this thread earlier this evening - jeepers.

To the newbies who might not have known Scotty, he was known here for his conservative view on politics. He was always a gentleman, and very sensitive and ready for a "truce" and apology if appropriate. He was what most people refer to as classy: even when some others totally disagreed with his point of view. Everybody knew he cared about the other guy.

I am officially drunk now, so I will digress. But Scotty, John, you are in my thoughts. I wish your family the best - and comfort right now. I hope you are looking down right now and are having a laugh and realize how much you meant to some of us. You were a true friend, and please don't look down on me when I am doing something that I shouldn't be. hahahaha Take care buddy and have a great journey. Your friend, Rob

Scotty-I'll miss our Political Arguements(and we had many) but I always respected your viewpoints and the discussions which never degressed into name calling. Rest in Peace Friend, Your suffering is over,,,

The River:

The snow melts on the mountain.

And the water runs down to the spring,

And the spring in a turbulent fountain,

With a song of youth to sing,

Runs down to the riotous river,

And the river flows to the sea,

And the water again

Goes back in rain

To the hills where it used to be.

And I wonder if life's deep mystery

Isn't much like the rain and the snow

Returning through all eternity

To the places it used to know.

For life was born on the lofty heights

And flows in a laughing stream,

To the river below

Whose onward flow

Ends in a peaceful dream.

And so at last,

When our life has passed

And the river has run its course,

It again goes back,

O'er the selfsame track,

To the mountain which was its source.

So why prize life

Or why fear death,

Or dread what is to be?

The river ran

Its allotted span

Till it reached the silent sea.

Then the water harked back

To the mountain-top

To begin its course once more.

So we shall run

The course begun

Till we reach the silent shore.

Then revisit earth

In a pure rebirth

From the heart of the virgin snow.

So don't ask why

We live or die,

Or whither, or when we go,

Or wonder about the mysteries

That only God may know.

I hope you don't mind me taking the liberty of posting his link here for those that would like to read the comments or post some of their own. If it is a problem feel free to edit it out.

Hey Wendell, you know who I am. John was a personal friend dating back to the 90's when we spent a lot of time together in Colombia. I called him about 2 weeks ago when he informed me that he needed an operation for a stomach-hernia caused by the feeding tube from his previous cancer battles. He fought hard for a long, long time and lost the final battle.

I have many photos of the good ol' day's in Colombia and still have photos on my computer of John at his DJ-car show in Phoenix. We usually talking by phone about every 2 weeks and exchaning emails especially since his first cancer battle a couple of years ago.
God Bless you John.

I was talking to John on the phone about 2 weeks ago , maybe a little longer.. I got a call in the early evening from John and he told me that day the Docs had found cancer on his spine.

John was a strong willed and brave man who fought this cancer 3 times..

I cheered him up and John's fondest wish was to get back down to Colombia to see his ex Novia and get some hot Colombiana loving between the sheets.. .. He also had a great sense of humor...

I imagine the late great Pete E that lived in Cali for many years is helping out his good friend John now in the Colombian heavens. John was with Pete E when he died in the Cali hospital ..

Take care and RIP my friend John..

I regret I was not able to attend John's funeral. But I do know he added a great deal of colour to this site, and I was genuinely touched by his long battle, and his dreams of deliverance from a terrible disease and to return to Colombia, a country which has won over the hearts of many people here. I do know some gracious people from this website did in fact work hard to try and assist John troughout his travails. I certainly respect Scotty a great deal and was sad to learn that he died after a long and valiant battle. Certainly not everyone here merits that level of respect.
