In her last post (which is now locked), this gringa attempted to lay the blame for all of the problems of Colombia on male tourists. Normally, I would just laugh this off as just another pathetic attempt to blame men for everything, but she is just soooo far in left field that I decided to respond.

First of all she mentions that most prostitutes don’t really like their jobs… yeah, so what ? Do men really look forward to going to work in a coal mine or a steel mill or digging ditches or hauling garbage or pouring concrete or fixing toilets ? Most of the time prostitutes just sit around on their ass, but when they do work, they make far more money than most of the women who choose “honest�? work. And if they are lucky enough to work in a high-class escort agency, they can make more than most of the men who go to them. So I’m supposed to feel sorry for someone who has no real training or talent, but makes $50,000 or $100,000 a year (tax free)? I don’t think so. And what about dancers or models or other entertainers ? Are we supposed to feel sorry for Sofia Vergara or Shakira who have both made a ton of money selling sex ? She can revile tourists all she wants, but their money does more to help those women and their children than anything their own government / community does.

Then she has the nerve to blame us for everything from poor Colombian mothers to the ongoing civil war, and voicing disgust that we would take advantage of the situation; “That you would go to Colombia to pick off its bones like turkey vultures is just despicable�?. That is just crap, plain and simple. If a family travels to Cartegena for a cheap vacation are they taking advantage of the country ? If they buy emeralds or gold or any other souvenirs to take home are they picking the bones of the country ? And what about the Colombians and others who go to the U.S. or Europe just to make money (and send it to their family back home), are they despicable vultures also?

The current swell of ignorant, sanctimonious people rising to power in the U.S. is extremely dangerous and is driving the U.S. back into the dark ages. They won’t be happy until we return to burning heretics.

Bashing gringos is JUST as bad as any sterotype. I've met all types of Gringos from the ones that chase chicas to ones that help build church. Most of the guys that chase chicas are COL. AND we're NOT talking about sex tourism/prostition, which also has WAY more COL customer than GRINGOS.

Poster wonder why we can't ask questions about cultural differences and sterotype, and unfortunately those sterotype about COL are USUALLY negative. BUT By asking questions and have people answer them with their own POV/experience everyone benefits. For example, i once ask if being COL women are GENERALLY LATE arriving for a date/meeting, the general consensus was YES, it happens a lot, BUT not with EVERY women.

I think if you were on this forum a year ago, you would see lot of sterotype being dispell(all COL men cheat, all COL r Drug trafficer, all COL women are visa ho, all COL is dangerous, etc.,) BUT if you constantly delete threads then those stereotype will cont. If notice most of us that visit/live in COL come away with a balance understanding of BOTH good AND bad of COL. So when some post generalization(both good/bad) we will counter it, to give a balance view.

Then Cerealkiller asked "is prositution LEGAL in COL". I mention it's legal JUST like in MANY countries(incl, USA/Canada, etc.,)

Why is the post LOCK when ONE poster(HILARY) came in automatically "baiting" and "sterotyping" and another (CEREAL) asked a legitimate social question. Which was address. I think if you allow the thread to cont. it would either A) died out for lack of interest or B) cont. back on topic(to much censureship). Hence no need to lock the thread. EVEN the most divise thread(ie, racism in COL) eventually died out and in THAT thread it was LOT LESS CIVIL than this one.

If you talk about US, there's lots of good things BUT you can also dicuss bad things too(racism, religious extremist, intolarance, loss of individual rights, etc.,). I really don't give a damn that the average Colombian gets up at 4am or at 2pm or does or doesnt cheat on his SO, smokes weed or not, etc. I have my own tastes and my own lifestyle. It's not like anybody is going to put a gun to your head and do what everybody else is doing anyways, LEAST of all in a place like Colombia!!

I would like to meet Elmo's corroncho buddies, though. They sound like a lot of fun.
