"Walking Ghosts" This book was sugggested in earlier posts here; I am about 3/4 through it and have a much better idea of what was and is in play in the politics of Colombia. If you have not read "Killing Pablo", that is worth the read. (IMHO)

Thanks... I read "Killing Pablo" and "The Kings of Cocaine" Kings is one of my favorite books ever. I will check out Walking Ghosts. Another good one is "Inside Colombia- Drugs, Democracy, and War" More of a text book then easy reading though

I'm almost finished Walking Ghosts too, Miguel what do you think of it? I actually had to put it down for a bit, it just wasn't flowing for me. Maybe I'll keep moving down the huge list on the poli side.

yes, kat I think dwme mentioned that in an earlier thread. Too bad I missed the TV version, it's one of my favorite Colombian novels. I might be wrong but I think that there was a TV version of La Voragine as well, but that was a long time ago.
Another book that I could recommend is La Bruja de Germán Castro Caycedo.

Desi

Gabo Has anyone read the new one? (Memoria de Mis Putas Tristes); naturally, if the original poster has not read Gabriel García Márquez, there's enough great reading there to keep you occupied for a while.
~~~Note to babygirl on Walking Ghosts~~~I had no problem staying interested in the book; it answered a lot of questions I had about Colombian politics over the last few decades.
The Cocaine Train This is good book about a british journalist (think his name is Stephen Wright?) finding out about his Grandfather who lived in Colombia in the 50's(?) and ends up leaving his then wife and daughter for his colombian mistress. As usually the case with western books on Colombia it focuses on the security problems, drugs etc but does give a good history of the problems. However the guy's journey to find the relations he never knew he had is excellent as are some of the old photos around Manizales.
Cosmic Banditos by A.C. Weisbecker.
If you don't LOL when reading this book, you must have had a sense of humour bypass.
One of the funniest books I've read.
