Good lawyer needed please!

Hi all

You've been very helpful with everything else so I've one more inquiry. Does anyone know a good, bilingual lawyer
in Colombia. They should be contactable via e-mail and be au fait with immigration thru investment/business. It
doesn't matter where in Colombia they are.

TIA!
Michael

Was that a typo? There aren't any "good" lawyers.

No Utopia, it wasn't. I happen to be one. =P

BTW, forgot to mention. Señor Mareno's (from cartagenainfo.net) contact is out of date. My e-mails get bounced. =(

You're a lawyer and you're admitting to that fact? Isn't the place in hell reserved for them one rung below child molesters? And Peter allows you to post here? What is this site coming to? Now there's lawyers here as well as idiots. Probably a good match actually....

Yeah, what's the world coming to. Tut-tut. It's all gone to the dogs.

Anyway, enough with the facetiousness. Any lawyer contacts, por favor? =D

I am related through marriage to several lawyers in Colombia but only one of them speaks passable English. He's a law professor in Bogota. Wait. What am I saying? For a second there I forgot that I am an ignorant fool who knows nothing about Colombia. Sorry.

If you want to email me Jamie at latin-wife.com
I can give you a lawyer in Barranquilla I have used that speaks very good English. Went to a University in the U.S and has broad legal knowledge. He is rather expensive compared to most Colombian lawyers but seems worth it.

thanks Adele I remember that list ... it will become helpful once in Colombia. I have found it too dificult to explain a lot via phone/email/chat. Biggest problem is the language barrier. Once there in person I can talk with hands and feet, show documents, point out certain things written somewhere. For now I will collect as many documents as possible.

to me, lionheart? Are you talking to me, Lionheart? just tell me all your thoughs about "languaje barrier" etc. (it's part of my job to understand your professional profile deeply, as well to translate-as I best I can- any document for example Orlando Rincon's speech)

You have a very, very good profession that colombian companies look for. I have to check the angles to "sale" your skills as best as I can(no 7/24, more $ etc) why not to try your own page as deltaasesores.com ?
(I suppose we could talk via email..¿why not to try msn voice?)...

no Adele, not you The language barrier comes to effect when I have to deal with somebody who doesn't speak English or German at all. I have noticed I can make myself understood in person better than via emails etc. (I am working on new web pages too)

I have been talking to US people living and doing business in Colombia, they all confirm the same thing. Even though they speak Spanish fairly fluent, it isn't good enough for business or dealing with legal issues. They all hire a full-time translator/interpretor.

Heck, me speaking two languages fluently, but give me in depth legal papers in English or German, and I am hopelessly lost. How many of you English speakers really understand legalese? On the other hand, give me software engineering documents or straight source code, I understand that stuff. Learning and knowing Spanish is important, but for legal issues I prefer a native-language lawyer being able to read between the lines and pulling rabbits out of his hat. And the same goes for business issues.
