Going to Los Llanos

We are going to Colombia and plan to go 3 days to Los Llanos, we want to stay 1 night in Villavicencio, and go to Granada or Puerto Lopez to stay 2 nights.

I didn't found so much information about Granada or Puerto Lopez, and I don't know what's the better.

I want to know if this is a dangerous area, and what is the best to know safety in Los Llanos
Thank you

The road from Villavicencio a The road from Villavicencio to Pto lopez is safe, from Villavicencio to Pto Lopez is about 1 hour, and the road is in a very good condition. you will see beautiful landscape. The town of Pto lopez is very small, no much nightlife there and it's very hot. The road to Granada is ok but I wouldn't travel that road at night, and I know that around Granada is not very safe. I went to acacias and san martin de los llanos last year, they are on the way to Granada ,I went with my British husband and we were fine.

If decide to go to Granada li Lili If you decide to go to Granada , I would recommend you on the way to stop and see San Martin De los Llanos it's a very beautiful historical town, on the same road Stop in Guamal too and taste the Carne a la LLanera there , I think is the best place where they do it. Another interesting town on that road is Castilla la nueva, where the MINISTERIO DE EDUCACION NACIONAL (MEN) and the National University of Colombia ((División Extensión del Departamento de lenguas extranjeras).
are running a bilingual project, and their goal is that by the year 2009 at least the young people there should be communicating in project teach English to everyone in the community and free.

lili Either you choose Granada or Puerto Lopez, I would make day trips to those towns instead of staying there. You will have much more to do staying around villavicencio. Live traditional music shows, horse rides at night, etc...

I Agree with Maraca, those towns are for a day trip only. you can enjoy more in Villavo, there you can find good nightclubs, restaurants, balnearios (swimming pools) shops, and the weather in Villavicencio is very pleasant
