going to cartagena hopefully this week!!

hi people, hope yer all well

well what can I say? after a month in bogota it is time to move on...

hopefully I´m off to cartagena this week or early next week. So apart from all the touristy stuff (which I´ll get out the way in the first few days probably) where´s best for nightlife and beaches? I´m travelling with a friend and we are bascially after nightlife, costena girls and sun...I know...terrible innit..but we´ve had 4 months of mountains, ruins, and lonely planet bullshit

we just want to party now!

I was there last month. Where are you staying? Take a day trip. Clubs are ok, but I think I was in tourist ones.

I miss my novia!

Drink first in Donde Fidel in the Plaza Del Reloj. 2,000 pesos a beer and you can sit in the sunshine. You'll get a lot of student girls drinking there. Places like Cafe Del Mar or the bars on Arsenal are only places to take a girl and not meet one.

Depends what music you're into for girls. Joyslava is good for dance music and a good crowd. For me Mister Babilla's is the best for salsa/pop/reggaeton. There's always attractive girls in there. (I'm talking "normal" girls as opposed to the working ones. Any old gringo can pay for it but where's the fun in the chase). Don't be arrogant and don't be cheap and you'll do just fine.

Oh and remember to dress to impress. The amount of arrogant gringo's i've seen in cartagena trying to get into the best clubs with a pair of shorts and flip-flops on is unbelievable. Just because your face is white doesn't mean you don't have to try.

wear a nice pair of Levis dockers or similiar and a nice dress shirt and no tennis shoes...the girls in Colombia dress nice and so should a gringo....

thanx for the replies

where I´m staying I´ve not figured out yet!

So are there a lot of "pre-pagos" in the clubs in cartagena? Its not really something I noticed in Bogota...is cartagena different? I´ll need to have my bullshit detector turned on when talking to the girls then!

As for dress, didn´t really pack much dress stuff in my rucksack due to space but I got a nice pair of shoes and some cool T shirts (i.e fashionable ones not sports ones).....that should be ok eh?

There are no pre-pagos in Cartegena, as a matter of fact, they're all pre-pagos.

Liam gives excellent advice.

There are some previous posts on PBH which cover bars in Cartagena. For more info, plug a few bar names into the Google search box at top of screen (eg. Mister Babilla, El Escandalo, La Cerveceria) and you will find the threads.

Regarding beaches, take a quick look at the islands nearby to Cartagena, then get your ass over to Santa Marta and Parque Tayrona.

que nota!

what nights are best? I´m finding it hard to find anything to do on monday and tuesday nights for example.....are there any bars I can go outside of the weekends? Nice morena chicks is what I am after, and cheap beer I suppose, but thats a bonus in my opinion.

And I really need to get out of this neighbourhood "Getsemani". It is a fucking shithole. Plain and simple. I literally can´t leave my hotel without some fucking skinny crackhead coming up to me and going "hey where you from man..you want cocaina??" No I don´t want coke mate you fucking piece of shit, and if I did I would rather boil my head in a pan of urine than buy from you ya junkie bastard. There´s this one guy that calls himself "tony montana" and not only did him and his drugged up pals try to lead me away to rob me the other night (by subtly surrounding me on and blocking off all the street corners) but he´s always hanging round Calle San Andres and I keep bumping into him, and every time its the same shit: "hey maaaan you wanna cocania tonight..am tony montana mmaaan, I get you anything you nnneeed" He´s killing my time here, I would absolutely love to take a crowbar to the wee fuckers gap-toothed face and put him out his misery!!

sorry bit of a rant there lol

There are some good suggestions for cheap lodgings in adrienne's Cartagena thread.

You're right, Getsemani is a dump, no doubt about that.

actually I have come to hate it here...

I have tried to be positive all week but I have found the people here to be amongst the coldest and most unwelcoming to foriegners in south america...

I am leaving as soon as I can...

a real shame.

Hola!

I came to CTG with my Colombian GF's. Maybe that is your problem? You are looking for a local, and I had one already when there in Getsemeni!

its not that, its the dirty looks in the street, the people trying to rip us off, the unfriendly stone cold attitude of people, the getting overcharged for a beer cos I´m white, the disorganisation of everything, the taxi drivers, the fact that there´s fuck all to do, the fact I was almost robbed twice, the shitty beach at bocagrande, the guy that swindled my friend out of 65 dollars, the amount of prostitutes....

to be honest I think it´s way way overhyped...I am just glad to be out of there!
