Does anyone know if there are limits or charges for going into a bank an witdrawing a large amount, ie. 900.000 cop with a debit card. Not limits or charges with my bank in the US, but with the bank in Colombia.
If this is possible, which bank is best?

I went to the teller, told her what I wanted to do, gave her my debit card and passport. She made copies of both, made me sign both, then ran my card. When she brought me back the cash, I also had to sign the receipt. As long as you have proper ID and available funds, I don't think you will have a problem. drvannostren says on Jul 20, 2009, 11:20: Yes, the most I've ever been able to take out at an ATM was 400,000, which is kind of stupidly low, making myself feel a bit rich, most only let you take 300,000. That being said, if you go INTO the bank, in my experience I wasn't allowed to take money out. The ATM at AV Villas was out of service, so I went in with my atm card to take money out and she said she couldn't do it, that i'd have to find another atm somewhere. No matter where you go, the Korean tour bus isn't far behind. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

stephen_aubrey says on Jul 20, 2009, 11:31: At Citibank( in Bogota anyways I know for sure) I can withdraw 2,000,000 cop per withdraw at the bank machine with my debit card.I can do this two times per 24 hour transaction. This daily limit was set up with my bank in my home country.I do not have a Citibank account I just use their machines. This costs me nothing as well because if I have certain amount of money in my account the fees are waived.Evey other bank machine besides Citibank I have found here is 400.000 per transaction. getting better says on Jul 20, 2009, 14:48: I have done this in Bancolombia about 2 years ago on a visa debit card. It takes about 40 minutes because you have to wait while a supervisor rings up to get authorisation, and then queue up at a different counter to collect the money. They are quite polite but they keep you waiting a bit to discourage you, I do not think they really like it. I think I got something like 2 million pesos.

scumbuster says on Jul 21, 2009, 05:17: My wife and myself both can take $500. per day US. If your withdrawing another currency, it will give you cash in the local currency until you hit that limit. This limit is set by your home bank not the machine you use. Also if there is a fee, it is from your bank. Many US cards are free to use in the US but as soon as you use them internationally they hit you with a big fee. Check with your bank on international ATM charges. National Interbank doesn’t charge any international ATM fees. You can sign up online. Its a little pain as you need to mail deposits but we only use it when we travel so it isn’t bad. Just send a check for deposit before your trip. Many machines in Colombia have a 400.000 limit but you can use your card multiple times per day until you hit your daily limit. stephen_aubrey says on Jul 21, 2009, 16:35: Citibank ATM gives me 2 million per transaction with my TD card I can do this 2 times per day ,the limit per day was set up by my bank,I suspect your daily limit set with your banking institution is $500 dollars and has nothing to do with Citibank limiting you.I just took out 4mil today from a Citibank ATM here in Bogota with no problems. davidslc46 says on Jul 21, 2009, 18:43: I have always been told that in an effort to curb robberies Colombia will not allow banks to give more than 1 million COP per 24 hour period. All of the different banks in Colombia limit me to 1 million, but citibank is the only ATM where I can do it in one transaction instead of three. My prepaid Credit Card has no restrictions and give 2 million per transaction at citibank.
