Going from MIA to FLL by public transportation

Is it possible and practical to go from Miami airport to Ft. Lauderdale airport by public transportation? I hear there was some sort of train, but is it realiable and reasonably priced?
Thanks!

There are no changes but normal train stops of course (look at stop map).. and then you take the free airport shuttle to get to the terminals..Im not sure of the rates because I havent had to use the services in years.. Both are convenient, reliable.

This is not practical for a 30min car ride rofl.. This is usually reserved for the Keys or Orlando.. especially when the other two services I mentioned are geared for this type of thing.

The Tri Rail is great. The last time I used it was a couple of years ago. WPB to MIA cost around 6 bucks at that time. You stay on the same train. The other posters are absolutely correct

As far as i know the Tri Rail last Miami stop is near the Golden glades interchange 180 NW something street. The airport is 36 st NW. you would have to take metro rail and then a bus to the airport. i would take a shuttle directly from FLL to MIA. try supershuttle or a similar service

The Tri Rail last stop is very, very close to the MIA airport. A 5 minute free shuttle ride to the airport.

I did the same thing Stock. I used to drive to MIA. Even with the many stops along the route, it takes about the same time as driving. Plus, there are no parking fees.

Besides the Transit already mentioned, One major form of transportation to the destination you are going to that has been overlooked is the El Cheapo Dade County Transit system. FYI, Miami is in Dade County, Ft. Lauderdale is in Broward county. Here's the cheapest way--catch a Miami Dade county city bus at the Airport and tell the driver where you want to go, then you will have to transfer (in all probability from the Omni station which is located just 1/2 block east of 13 st and biscayne blvd. This is just a few blocks North of the Miami Heat AA Arena. Or take a City bus to a metromover stop. The Metro is the little free train that runs around in a convoluted circle around Downtown Miami(more or less) also it goes to Brickell. This Metromover also has a stop at the Omni station. Once at the Omni station, you will get on the 93 express Bus that goes north. Best Advice-- you need to first call the Dade County customer service and ask for the Exact Bus you catch in Broward county to take you to the Airport. Sometimes they drop Routes and they will alert you to any changes. Their Number is: 305-770-3131. They have a website but its not too user friendly: go-miamidade.gov/---------Tell them where you are going and they will give you the most direct route or Bus to take which may be better then my advice. Many Travelers don't know about the Miami City Buses, they can save some Big Bucks using it. Also another unknown feature, you can take the Miami City Bus down to the Keys and as it stops halfway at Marathon by the Kmart--you then transfer to the Key West Public Bus the rest of the way to Key West. All this distance for a cost of around -$7). I took a group of out of town friends down to Key West this past summer, cost around $25 for all of us. I picked up the Tab, being the generous individual I am,,,

The Super-shuttle would cost at least $30, a Taxi probably $50 minimally.

Mikey, you cant be serious and you just gave me and this person a nightmare scenario.. How is this better than taking a free shuttle to the metrorail station near hertz and then spending $3.75 on the tri rail? ajajajajajajja holy moly!

What I said is true, PCL--its still the cheapest option and its another Option. PCL--I am serious,,,Life is about having options, correct? Note, I didn't say anything was wrong with your advice that only the Miami Dade Bus sytem is another option...BTW, I had more then a few long waits for some of those Free Shuttle Buses, I'm familiar with them

Wow, Mike. You are really wrong on your statement. That is the LOOOONNGGG way around to get to the airport. The easiest, cheapest, fastest way to get from West Palm Beach airport to the Fort Lauderdale airport or to the Miami airport is the Tri Rail.

Mike...taking all those buses and you are not concerned about your safety? Sounds more dangerous than riding a bus to Popayan.

LMAO... Gamm, stay away from the public bus and a taxi, that would just be OUTRAGEOUS!

Train's not a bad route (I rode Amtrak just last weekend to Orlando each way, and not the first time), but you'll still need a short taxi to and fro the airports.

Amtrak.com & Tri-Rail.com are your best, cheapest route. Hell, they probably do have shuttles to/fro anyways.

Stay away from the buses; thats how our craziest get around here, trust me. I got a video I took I could show you, even the bird in the shot was walking in circles and seemed like it was talking to itself; besides the guy doing the same thing, of course. A direct Greyhound bus might not be AS bad, but I'd still avoid it if I could...

And like I said earlier, a taxi would rape you like, literally, run the car up your ass while laughing kind of raping... then charge you for the service.

EDIT: OH! And round trip to Orlando was only $64.

"The good die young"... so get out and live.

I have a brother that lives in Palm Beach. Sometimes when I am going to Colombia I stop in a couple of days to visit. I have found the Tri-rail wonderful. It goes right to and from Fll and MIA as well as Palm Beach................................
