Going Away in 3 Weeks.. what is the prettiest place in the caribbean?

I am going away in 3 weeks time and looking for a good last minute kind of package.

I know you guys at PBH are seasoned travellers, so I wanted to hear your opinions on what the best spots in the caribbean are (Colombia doesn't count because I am going there in September anyways).

So far it is a tie between Cancun and Puerto Plata but I still can't make up my mind.

I am 27 and going with my boyfriend and one more couple. We don't want to party til we drop, but we don't want to go to a senior citizen's retreat either. :)

Thanks for your suggestions!!!!

Punta Cana By Far I think the best beach in the world is Punta Cana, DR

By far the best, most desolute, isolated, natural, non-commercialized getaway

PM I can give you more info

DR I grew up in the DR and have yet to see prettier beaches, even in Hawaii. (Of course it's hard to compare, because the beaches are very different from each other.) I prefer the crystal clear water where you can see you feet as you walk. Also, there are plenty of beaches that have coral reefs above the water in somewhat of an inclove where you know that there is no way a shark can get past. It's really cool, especially for those of us that saw JAWS way too many times when we were little and can hear the theme song going through our head when we are are out in the ocean. Good luck!

Puerta Plata, DR Thumbs Down! My neighbor's house is located in Cofresi and is 100 meters from the Beach. What a sight to sit out there and watch the moon over the Bahia de Plata(silver bay)-incredable sight! There is another site in SW Puerto Rico, close to Rincon, where they have those Luminescent little critters that light up the bay at night if they are disturbed by a boat.Pretty nice also and they rent little cabins(government owned) on the beach very reasonable.PP--very nice!!!

On Sept 17, 2008: Senator John McCain said, as he had many times before, that he believed the fundamentals of the economy were "strong."Hours later he backpedaled, explaining that he had meant that American workers were Strong.

..... Dominican Republic's beaches are nice but so are the beaches in CanCun. The problem with the CanCun beaches is the over abundance of American tourists that drink and scream until they puke on the side of the pool.

You're better off in Dominican Republic. I used to go there a lot before I discovered St. Barts and St. Maarten. Those are the best beaches ever….unfortunately it costs 3 to 4 times as much $ to go there than it does to go to the DR and Cancun.
