I was wondering if one can go to school (credit classes) under a TC (spousal ) visa.
Furthermore, can one go to school in any visa status (except tourist, of course)?
Thanks

lili says on Apr 29, 11:09: Yes, I know for a fact you can work and study on a TC visa (I've been doing it for the last three years). Apart from a valid visa, your visa will need to state your workplace and the expiration date of your current contract. Everytime you change jobs you're supposed to correct that on your visa. Just beware that if you are going to any professional field you will be required to validate your diplomas and after that, get a "matricula profesional". Last time I was denied a visa because I did not have it and had to return the next day with it. To back it up you can check "resolución 0255 de 2005". This is the link:

Gator says on Apr 29, 16:44: At the MRE site check visas under Visa Temporal Cónyuge o Compañero. One section of the visa requirements states: en el evento en que el extranjero desee ejercer una actividad diferente a hogar o estudiante, deberá aportar los documentos que demuestren la actividad a desarrollar en Colombia, en concordancia con las exigencias establecidas para los nacionales colombianos, y certificado de proporcionalidad entre trabajadores nacionales y extranjeros cuando sea contratado por entidad privada. adrienne79 says on Apr 29, 19:08: Okay, Jorge is actually asking this question for me. I am already working so I know that is possible. I guess the real question is can I study also without going to Bogota to make any changes. I don't want my "docente" title to be removed so that I can study. I was just thinking of taking a class or two. Is that possible? Anyone know?

lili says on Apr 29, 19:37: Adrienne, the contract's expiration date is not a problem as to being legally allowed to work, as long as the visa is valid. Actually, I don't know why they put it there anyway. Regarding your question about being able to study I believe you can. I worked and studied full-time with a TC visa, so from my experience, I didn't need to do anything in particular. I just enrolled like any other student. The only additional thing the school asked for was a copy of my passport and visa and that was it.

adrienne79 says on Apr 30, 08:31: oh and what I was trying to say about it being odd is because in my visa they did not even mention date of the expiration of the contract. Not sure why.

vicshere says on Apr 30, 08:50: your work visa is only legal with a valid contract.....when the contract finishes your work visa is no longer valid...you then need to reapply at MRE...and then report to the DAS the new work visa listo |
|
adrienne79 says on Apr 30, 12:15: Vic it is a TC visa with permission to work, not a work visa. Since my school is not open from Dec 1 to mid January, I won´t be on a contract but my visa still doesn´t expire untill the following September. When I took my contract that expires Nov. 1 noone at MRE or DAS seemed to have a problem. I think it is normal for most teachers. From my understanding, I just need to let DAS know when I am on vacation but since my visa already says my school´s name I should be able to continue with the the next year without any change unless of corse I change schools. Seems silly to change it for 1.5 months when it is not notated anywhere n the visa that it is needed to do that. Am I misunderstanding something?

vicshere says on Apr 30, 15:23: yes i am talking about a work visa on your TC visa ...your TC visa with a contract is a work visa...when your contract is finished you need a new contract and return again to MRE again...i go every 12 months everytime i get a new contract listo |
|
|
vicshere says on May 1, 06:32: adrienne I might also add that you don't need to pay any additional fees at the MRE ...you pay for your visa for 2 years any changes inside the two years are free.....the bus trip to Bogota you have to pay for though listo |
