I wonder why people think that having strong peso is good for Colombia?
it's good if you are going to travel abroad but not many can do that.

what with all those families that lives with the money that some relatives send from the USA.
what about interest?
and I am sure this will affect many Colombian export companies.

The large Subway sandwich is the 12 inch one. Why you would eat at Colombian Subway is a different question. I've had Koko Rico and El Corral on occasion but haven't eaten much fast food in Colombia.

Peso may see a correction now The 10 year bond yield is rising and Bernake may have to raise rates to stave off inflation in the US. 10% pull back wouldn´t shock me. The higher rates in the US is good news for the ailing dollar....The bad news is the higher rates may incite a harsher landing for the US housing market.

spigrimace I don't think its worth paying a great deal of attention to the US bond yield in relation to inflation history or many other economic indicators for the last couple of years, the yield is all cocked up due to foreigners buying US bonds.

May well prolong the US property downturn though.

Sandwich I try to eat an American style lunch each day. I don't like colombian food 3x a day. Even if it tastes great. I usually make a sandwich made on Italian or wheat bread, with a side of raw vegies an 1/2 an avacado. If my lunch costs more that $2.00 I'd be surprised. Since I do 95% of the cooking, it's easy for me to cook some extra, beef, pork or chicken, so I have sandwich goodies. For a treat the other day I bought some Guoda cheese. Wow, what a treat!

Koko Rico was the biggest rip-off I ever had in Colombia - pertaining to eating out. One time, I was in Villavo centro with Vivi, and we went to Koko for lunch. The price was similar to a US restaurant. The food was ok at best. That was my one time in a chain type of restaurant in Colombia. I am more of the 2.5 mil bowl of sopa de mondongo, while waiting for an entire pollo broaster with potatoes and yucca for 11 mil type of guy.

I receommend you guys hunt for that local guy that is cookin better than the chain. They are around and they are cheaper and better tasting. You have to maybe try a few dogs to get to the one you like but it is worth the effort to hook up with the real deal.

Cali Mio can be really good though. And what's the burrito place called, maybe Carnal? something like that, there's one next to the BBC on 82. Only the burritos are good, don't get the quesadillas, uggghh.

Dogger is pretty good, I just wish they would learn to steam the (far too big) buns though.

(Montreal has the best hot dogs that I know of, not to mention smoked meat sandwiches, of course.)

I can't recall what I paid for my small Subway sub in parque 93, but I do recall being shocked at the price.

Schwartzes Seriously one of the most memorable dining experiences of my life. Should be in someone's Top 100 in the world list, maybe Top 20.

First time I went there, I was hung over, starving, didn't have a clue what to order. The waiter gruffly suggested a plate of 'medium' (medium fat).

I asked for a glass of milk.

The waiter looked at me like the moron I was.

"You can't drink milk with smoked meat!"

Me: "what should I have?"

"Black cherry".

Me, meekly: "Ok"

Cott's Black Cherry and a smoked meat sandwich. To die for. I had never had either before, and ended up making a decent bit of change buying Cott stock as a result of that little visit.

Scotty, Here's a Link showing the Peso Trading In the 90s at the Rate I mentioned,. Gator had posted an even more precise rate dating way back and graphically not long ago.

"Colombian peso:
Currency data from January 1, 1990 to August 18, 1992 were unavailable. Between August 19, 1992 and August 18, 1995, the peso exchange rate changed from 693.25 to 947.22, or at an average rate of 0.23194 per day. The exchange rates for the peso from January 1, 1990 to August 18, 1992 were calculated by decreasing the value of the peso by 0.23194 per day from 693.25, which it was on August 19, 1992."

Late eighties was down in Lima..Where I was changing my dollars on the black market in the streets of Lima when dollars where in demand but the exchange rate sucked but I have read where it was 800-1 but you know I bet ya items were much cheaper so that 800 pesos went far...in Colombia..
Huh imagine me in my late teens in the streets of Lima changing my dollars on the black market..I was long hair freak with a earring in my ear..Well had some experience when I was 14-16 my dad use to send me to the streets of Bangkok to exchange Dollars for Baht at the time the black market was good.. I wish Colombia had a black market probably do but not that much and I have not seen yet..

Really ? Hummm, let's see,, one reason might be they are selling counterfeit pesos.

Then again, maybe they want YOUR peso's and will give you dollars.

Thinking about it,, I remember several months ago one guy said he could "pay for the plane ticket" by taking dollars and exchanging for pesos. It might have been Pounds ??? You aren't the same guy are you?

PS: Talked with a professor who said ONE DOLLAR bought EIGHT PESOS when he was in school. I'd guess that to be in the late 1960's.
